VH41 Auto Issues

Postby Boosted_162 » Sun Jan 12, 2014 4:45 pm

Yes I know this isn't a Toyota, but thought i'd ask as there is many smart cookies on here...

My brother in law has a Y33 Nissan Cedric, stock was VG30E, and he put a VH41 and auto from a Y33 Cima into it approx 18 months ago. Has been running fine since bar a CEL for traction control as Cedric never had it, and Cima had an incomplete circuit so couldn't wire it all up. Now hes had an odd issue, very occasionally you would go to drive off, and its locked in 2nd gear (limp mode?). You would restart the car and all is good. Now it's gone and permanently stuck itself in 2nd. Scantool came up with a few codes, then once reset we were left with 1 code - Shift Solenoid Valve B.

At this point i'll also point out there is an ABS sensor issue in the rear from swapping to the Cima LSD.

Firstly: Can an ABS open circuit/no signal from rear cause limp mode/shift issues? I will be helping him sort this issue anyway but nice to know if this could be the problem.

Secondly: With the shift solenoid code coming up, is that because A: there actually is an issue with it, B: the code comes up if the solenoid is locked due to limp mode/faults or C: a combination of the 2, plus the current wind direction and price of fish?

Thirdly: Anyone know how to trick the ECU to think theres a TCS system on a VH41?

Sorry for the long post  any help is much appreciated, he really wants it running for Cannonball!

I replaced an auto trans in a Cima for a guy a while back

Can't remember exactly what was wrong with it - burnt clutches I think - but anyway, it was stuck in 3rd

You could occasionally trick it into working somewhat properly by clearing codes, and I went down the road of thinking it was just an electronic problem, but def turned out to be mechanical

Very similar box to patrol/z32 etc

There was also something funny about the input shaft length, I had to swap them over for some reason - the vh41 one was shorter I think
