Re: What did you do to your car today?
Did a compression test on the Blacktop.
Results from October 2013 were:
#1: 165psi
#2: 175psi
#3: 170psi
#4: 177psi
I've since been running fully synthetic oil and today's results are:
#1: 170psi
#2: 187psi
#3: 185psi
#4: 187psi
The repair manual states that ideal compression should be 192psi or higher, with no lower than 156psi and no more than 14psi difference between each cylinder. Number #1 is still a little low for my liking, but it was good to see the other three cylinders come up. I did a compression test on my orange FX-GT the other day too after putting in some 'Rislone Compression Restore with Ring Seal' in and surprisingly it worked. The figures weren't as high as I would have hoped on that car, but for a daily it's not bad. I have another bottle of the compression restore here so I might chuck it in the Blacktop and see if the compression comes up on #1. Might just be a sticky ring, but all in all I'm happy with the results.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Compression tests are all relative, the numbers generally don't tell you much unless they're drastically out. Dirty brushes in a starter, a battery putting out 0.5V less under cranking then a new one, thicker oil, throttle closed/open, engine temp at time of testing, quality of the gauge etc will all change things.
If they're relatively even (which they are) then I wouldn't be concerned about the 192psi bit.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Very true. The battery is pretty new, but the battery in my orange one is a lot older and I could definitely tell the difference during cranking. I did 20 cranks for each cylinder with my foot flat on the throttle and the engine warmed up to operating temperature. The oil I was running in October was Valvoline Engine Armour 15w-40 semi-synthetic, while the oil I'm running now is Penrite 10 Tenths Racing 15w-50 full synthetic, so that seems to have made a difference. The actual gauge itself is a pretty cheap one. It was only about $30 on TradeMe, but as it was the same gauge I used for the previous test it was a good indication as to if anything improved since October. I'm planning on replacing the VVT pulley at the same time as the cambelt shortly, so with a bit of luck VVT might activate a little better with the new pulley. Not that there's anything noticeably wrong with it now, but since the spring inside the pulley loses it's tension over the years (hence the diesel rattle sound at idle) I'm sure VVT activation would be somewhat affected compared to new.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Pulled the new FFIM back off and spent another day bending over the engine bay, wrapping up the loom for the final time, and repositioning all the sensors to their new locations, then putting conduit/tape around everything.
Cut down a couple of lengths of intercooler piping, installed BOV and turbo fuse, made a bracket to mount my dipstick tube to the new lower manifold runners, and another bracket to mount the throttle cable to the plenum.
Once the ignitor wiring is soldered up tomorrow, and everything is bolted back on, then fingers crossed it will be tuning time (hopefully)

Greddy manifold time!
Just gotta get a throttle body and maybe sort out the clearance issues!

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Basically just light paint scraping and a little bit of minor rim curbing - all paintwork has been done, car has been detailed and rims get repaired next week, then ready for Nats

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Good to see it has been repaired and looking nice again
I took my car on its first drive in about 5 months, and got some logging done. Tuned low throttle cruise for 50, 70 and 100kph, and did a few small pulls, but decided to call it quits for the night and look over the data. Will try and put as many kms as possible on it over the weekend, to make sure its reliable enough to take away to Taupo next weekend.
I wonder what the combination of the FFIM and the GTE ECU ignition maps have done to my torque curve
