OBD2 tool - will it work in Fielder?

Postby cat007 » Thu Mar 20, 2014 10:46 am

Looking at getting this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ELM327-WIFI-Wir ... 20dc697290

It'll work in my Ford, but wondering if it will work in my brothers 2001 Fielder with the 2zz-ge engine?

Any ideas?

As far as I know 2001 Fielder (or any Corolla) are not OBD2 compliant.

yea, true?!
that might explain why the bluetooth OBD2 scanner I bought from Dealextreme doesnt want to pick up my car? is has the port for it though /shrug. hmmmm...

Also pointing out I have the same OBD2 scan tool as OP linked.

I have done a few corollas via diagnostic plug in the engine bay, with an adapter lead.

Just because it fits an obd 16pin plug it doesnt mean the scan tool has the software to support the vehicle.

What I meant to say is the port is not true OBD2 port.
Even if you use adapter a lot of things are not accessible.
It is there for basic emissions tests and basic diagnostics (eg reading error codes).
I am pretty sure you cannot get live data off it (beyond what you could get from older style diagnostic connector).

I see.

Yes, I definately was able to uplift codes but cant remember looking at live data. From memory I could bring up the data pids but wasnt able to see anything live stream next to it. When another comes in Ill check it out but I think your right.

So you are saying true obd will generally give access to LD? As in using 16pin OBD2 socket. Had a few cars that wouldnt give access and I was wondering why?. I cant remember if i connected using an adapter etc. Hondas, some mitsis etc use a differant plug, Ill pay more attention next time.
