REPCO/RIPCO???

Postby BlakeNZ » Fri Feb 28, 2014 11:02 pm

So i went to Repco tonight, wanting to buy a trans cooler. They offered me two sizes. The first one, measuring 28cm by 18 cm, they wanted $630 for!!!!! I'm sorry, they should be around $140 for that size thanks, can you check again? So they checked again, the computer still kept giving them the quadrupled price. How about you price check the small one then? That one is $530!!!!
so i had to walk away. Crazy. I bet they have never sold a single one at that price. I was pretty disappointed, as i needed one promptly.

Brake and transmission in palmy normally have some on the shelf and most of their prices are reasonable.
and they are open until 12 on a Saturday....

Have in the past bought trans. Coolers from Supercheap, Craig Davies brand. These were about 120-130 Dollars.
On the third one now, they leak, weak welds where the hoses clamp on. Probably because of the way I have it mounted.
Will sort something when I get the body kit sorted.
Blake, what brand are the Repco ones? And are the hoses clamped or screw type?

There has been a cock up with the buy pricing on those trans cooler kits, unsure why it hasn't been fixed. They have literally quadrupled in buy price for some reason.

bought some Repco brand rattle can primer and spot filler for the scooter resto....directions on spot filler: Do not apply to bare metal, apply over a coat of Repco Primer.

Do that....first swipe of the filler onto the primed surface....it starts to strip the primer, subsequent swipes to get the filler as a nice even layer = uneven congealed mess of stripped primer, filler and all that prep-work is wasted. So now I need to sand it all back and re-prime it ggrrrr

F U Repco.

I don't use car fillers, I find even expensive ones shrink and crack, as well as mix is difficult to get consistent.
I use epoxy with fairing compound to make my own filler. No need to prime (apply to bare metal, as it chemically bonds to metal), does not shrink or crack, can whistand decent hit without crumbling.

Saying that epoxy is nasty shit to work with.

Another fine example of ripco pricing..

Wanted a front main seal and rear main seal for the weekend, so headed over to STA parts. They sorted me out for the front main seal for <$6, but didn't have the rear main in stock. Tried repco on the way home.. None in stock, but could pickup from Mt Welly.. $100, I expected them to take the piss and try to charge $30-40, but a hundy???? Supercheap slightly less than half the price of repco, but dont stock seals so needed to order it in. Guess i'll order one next week from Toyota or STA.
