Super cats tires

Postby dnalunchie » Tue Apr 01, 2014 12:28 pm

Hey guys

I am about to throw a new set of tires on the corona (1990 3s manual)

Bridgestone has a promo atm for 13/175/70 supercats for 69 each fitted balanced etc etc

Anyone think of anything better for a similar price?

I am thinking about some nicer Turanza's or Kumho's but I can't find them for under $99 each but undoubtedly they would be a better tire I imagine.

So basically any last minute reasons not to pull the trigger on the supercats deal?

Supercats are actually a pretty decent tyre. For $69 fitted I'm wondering why you are waiting?

That's about the cheapest tyre size around, every tyre producer you can think of will offer something in that size. That's damn cheap fitted though, most budget ones in that size fitted will be closer to $100.

supercats are fine if you are just milling about

my brother went from some meaty GT Radials to supercats in his FXGT though, and he is now terrified of driving it any harder than a nun would hahah

oh and the tyre squeal is a bit nuts - doing a 3 point turn in a paved\polished floor carpark sounds like you are actually just doing skids hahahaha

Yeah that's really cheap. I got some Sunfull somethings on the EP81. $95 each for 155/80/R13.

Why is your Corona on 13s? That's tiny for a mid sized car.

^ Because old NZ new car lol.

To a certain degree you'll get what you pay with tyres. Provided you don't expect awesome handling they'll do the trick. It's when people put these on their car then wonder why when being pushed the car doesn't have the grip of XYZ performance tyre.

I've got a set of 175/70R13 Supercats on my daily. Cost me $75 a tyre a couple of years back, was pleasantly surprised at how good they are for a budget tyre.. nice balance between wear and grip. They stick like sh*t to a blanket in the dry, I find mine understeer a little in the wet but you've got to be leaning on them pretty hard, they're quite predictable.

Yeah what is with that? I thought it was just my questionable wheel alignment lol. Anyway, totally recommend them for a budget tyre.

I ran supercats on my camry wagon a few years ago, and they were a good compromise, at a good price.

Would I recommend them on a car that gets driven harder than trundling around? No.

Seriously, asking on the internet about $69 tyres?
You have failed at life by so much you don't even deserve a 1990 Corona and should be walking everywhere.

Yeah man clearly, how dare I ask for info. Lol.

Anyway, found some Yokohama A drive 2nd hand set of 4 all with 7mm of tread on them. $62 each.

A much more touring-higher grip tyre than the supercats.

Very happy with them.

Supercats aren't a bad tyre. Although consider shopping around at $69ea bridgestone is making approx 100% profit off you.

Try looking into a archilles tyre they are a better tyre and should be about the same price.

/meh probably doesn't matter too much on a daily. with regards to the 13's see it as a challenge to wear the writing off the sidewall of the tyre.. this was always my measure of how hard I could push the old gemini and bluebird I had when I drove 40kms (20kms of twistys) to school and back every day.. what great days those were!

Any idea how he found the radials?

I don't know anyone who has tried them, but the tyre shop has just suggested a set of GT Radial Champrio 128's for my daily driver (04 n/a auto Forester FWIW).

I had GT Radial Champiros on my Levin, they were a good commuter tyre but not sporty at all. I replaced the front pair with narrower Toyo Proxes 4 and they had infinitely more grip

I've got Supercats as my commuting tyres (and also grass tyres) on my AE92 club car.

They are adequate.

The amount of tyre noise I can get out of them on the road is a bit of a giggle. Stiff suspension, plate diff, commuter tyres.
