Trailer lights...

Postby Mr Revhead » Thu Apr 10, 2014 7:18 pm

So I've had 4 different trailers plugged into the 4wd.
The brake lights won't work with any of them, have been both bulb and LED type.
The wiring on the 4wd checks out according to Narvas wiring diagram, and using a test light there is power and a good earth.
I'm stumped.

4 dodgy trailers?

Check the pins for power when it's actually plugged in too. You may find it has a bad connection that's letting enough voltage through to power a test light but not the brake lights.

What are the odds?!
I guess the only thing I can do is put a multi meter on it and make sure there's decent current there?

As above, probably a poor connection on the pins. If it is just the brake lights not working wrap a little tin foil around that pin and test it again. Spent hours chasing an issue like this in the past with a borrowed trailer, earth pin was a bit squashed and not connecting when plugged in.

Plug in a trailer, take cover off see if getting signal throughs the plug.
Normal if 7pin flat just light spread pins little. Normal most of problems

Do you have power on the trailer connector side or were you testing unplugged on car connector. Sounds like brake + pin connection to me also.

Replace one of the trailer plugs with one from Supercheap that has the LED tester built in. About $16 at the moment.
See ya

Which will then fail in 5 minutes. Been there, done that.

Same - good idea but very badly made
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
