Ae101 blacktop swap. No power to fuel pump

Postby KIPH8N » Sat Apr 12, 2014 8:46 pm

So we did a blacktop 4age conversion on my mates ae101. We are using a wiring loom off an automatic ae101 bz touring (4age blacktop) and an automatic ecu off the same car. So we can crank the motor but the fuel pump does not get any power. We wired the fuel pump directly to the battery and the car started up. So why is the fuel pump not getting power. The efi fuse is still together. What could be causing this problem?

Thanks

On the ae101 the pump relay is switched from the afm,
So the trigger wired now needs to come from the ecu.

Using MAP now rather than AFM? AFMs usually have a fuel pump switch in them.

Why not just wire it up to ignition?

It is the green wire with red trace on the ae101 loom from the afm.

I would wire it up with a safety of some sort in case you have an accident. Wiring to the ignition is unsafe. I think you can buy switches/relays for this purpose.

I believe the relay you are looking for is the circuit opening relay which is located on or very close to the ecu. Find the circuit opening wire on the blacktop ecu and connect it into the green and red wire which should be coming back to that relay from the old afm wiring. Everything should now work as Toyota intended and your car won't try and burn you alive should you crash it.

from memory, the black top ecu will switch on the fuel circuit opening relay. if you are in an accident were the engine stalls or stops then it will turn off the power to the relay.

you can use any relay to do this task, just make sure that it is controlled by the ecu.

silver tops had it such that if there was air flowing through the ecu then it allowed the fuel pump to be on. when the engine is stopped then no air is flowing and hence fuel is off.

Thanks guys all sorted :)
Since we were using an automatic loom there was no wires on there for circuit open relay on the loom. So what we did was get a ecu pin with a bit of wire and stuffed in into the ecu plug and connect the green and red wire to it.
