Black Top 20v Spark plugs?

Postby White Shadow » Fri Apr 11, 2014 12:19 am

Hey all

Rang Appco today and got a part number for spark plugs for my car.

Some how I don't think they are right...

Thoughts?

PS New VVT pulley is on! :D

Use NGK or Denso, steer clear of Bosch for most Japanese stuff.

BKR6EP-11 (I think)

Call Toyota though, they're often better priced on plugs than Repco/BNT/Appco anyway.

Out of interest, why do you say this? I used them in my RB26DETT. Only problem i found was the ceramic broke on one, but I think thats because my mate dropped it...

They just don't always seem to play nice together. I don't know any reason for it, that's just in my experience. It goes both ways though. I'd rather be putting genuine plugs in a Falcon (for example) than NGKs.

This is very generally speaking and I'm sure there are millions of happy people with Japanese cars and Bosch plugs driving around :)

Odd they'd give you a Bosch plug number when they don't sell them....
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

I wouldn't run bosch either, and we were a bosch dealer.

the problem with bosch spark plugs is the range is not wide enough,

There are about 50 different NGK spark plugs that will all cross over to 1 single Bosch plug.

For a blacktop 20V

From NGK site

Recommended Plug BKR6EP-11
Iridium option BKR6EIX-11

As above Denso plugs are pretty cheap.
Can do a set of Platinum plugs (factory fit) for $78.75 delivered or standard plugs for $16 delivered.

I get my spark plugs from this guy, only $11 each:

Denso Platinum PK20TT - http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 724485.htm

or

NGK Platinum BKR6EGP - http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 204464.htm

Both have a gap of 1.1mm, which is perfect for the 20v.

Good.
Now take them out and look at them, after reading what you can from stuff like
http://www.strappe.com/plugs.html
http://www.dragstuff.com/techarticles/r ... plugs.html
http://www.4secondsflat.com/Spark_plug_reading.html
http://www.dansmc.com/Spark_Plugs/Spark ... talog.html
You may even find out it's not a plug problem.
quit asking others what they can only guess at or following the factory recommend stuff for a new unmodified average conditions engine.
//
//
Also, the very last place in the entire world to get plugs from is the Toyota(or any other) Dealer!
