Braided line for methanol speed flow or nzkw?

Postby steroidcontaskie » Sat Apr 26, 2014 9:58 pm

Hi all,

I have had a methanol leak from the nylon tubing that came with my methanol injection kit (2places)

Going to replace the line running from the tank in my boot to the flow sensor in the in the engine.

I could get speed flow stuff from GSS, but since it is going to be a long line I was thinking it might be worth getting something cheaper like the braided from nzkw.

Anyone used the nzkw stuff before? It doesn't feel like the same quality as speed flow stuff, but is it still ok for a 200psi water methanol line?

Cheers Edward

I think most people are going to say get the good stuff and do it once. But if its going the length of the car, is solid pipe not an option with flexi on each end?

I hadn't thought about a hard line, guess I could, but it will be more fittings to use. I will probably just go to GSS and get speed flow stuff. All the other line is from there. I don't want to get crappy stuff, but if no one can recommend NZKW line then I wont chance it.

Cheers

For curiosity, where is the line currently run and where are the leaks?

The line is a 4mm OD nylon tube that came with my AEM methanol injection kit.

Don't know if you are familiar with the 2jzge engine but the intake is an over the top kind. So that charge pipe leading to the throttle is over the top of the exhaust, and since I did a na-t conversion, also the turbo.

Anyway, the methanol get injected into that charge pipe and the heat from the turbo melted a hole in the nylon line. That line has been replaced by a -3an series 200 speed flow line with fyre foil over it.

The other leak is somewhere under the car, I am not 100% sure where but needless to say the puddle of methanol was a good enough clue that it needs replacing. The current line runs along where the fuel lines are.

I am thinking -4an from the tank in the boot to the flow sensor in the engine bay.

Cheers

Arnt the fuel lines soiled under there? Think braided is going to get chiped under there too eventualy unless you sheild it.

Be careful the braided line does not rub on the fuel lines and make that leak.

You are not in a rush to do this, and GSS is only $$$ because they have all the stock on the shelf and you pay for that convenience. Fittings and hose are not to bad if you buy them online so if your happy to wait work out what you need and I can bring them back from Oz if you want to do it that way.

Yea, it is hard line under there, I guess I could get it covered with rubber, or get a hard line made.

Any idea where you get hard lines like that made up?

STA parts now have the soft ali hardline with either compression fittings or flare fittings, so if you dont have the flare tool simply get the compression fitting then back to dash braided line, its new so dont think its on their website but mate has just used it awesome stuff.

You need the braided line with the teflon inner pipe. If you run rubber it will swell over time then leak
Ive never had a leak from the NZKW fittings, the quality seems good enough. I run E85 through my fuel system.
