Still waiting for a politician to have the balls to say if you are collecting DPB/Dole you get compulsory implanted contraception. Stop the welfare cycle at the root.

Thats a tough cookie right there, when you consider a huge proportion of people who would fit into the category are Christian, and dont believe in contraception.

Anyways, we digress....

Back to that girl who giggles at Pauls jokes every night :)

Simply stop paying people to breed. (DPB, WFF are all the same, just different names.)
It encourages the worst in the gene pool to multiply.

Wont work, they will still have sex and have kids cos they dont think of the consequences until they miss their periods/GF tells them "I'm Late". Damage is done by then.

Disagree a bit.
Would take a few actually feeling the pain/consequences of their action and probably $&#$% up a few of their offspring but the long term benefits would be there. Just no one willing to sacrifice a few kids to actually make a stand that would benefit the whole country long term.

Short sighted how exactly? What benefit is there to paying/encouraging/not preventing drop kicks (mostly) from breeding?

I'd rather pay a higher level of benefit to those that through no fault of their own (unexpected redundancy, death of a partner etc) end up in a bad situation than pay the same amount of money out to more long term beneficiaries who think it is a valid lifestyle choice.

Why? People currently breed with no consequences and get paid for it.
Not a fit parent? Take the kids off them.
Send your kids to school hungry? Take the kids off them.
Don't pay your rent? Lose your kids.
Majority of the kids will be far better off and the parents lose the financial incentive for being stupid. I see a lot of the results of this and to be honest a bullet before some of these people breed would be doing the world a favour.

Where are people planning on storing this excess supply of children?

Forced contraception for the reasoning being discussed here is a violation of peoples rights, and quite frankly it's a moronic idea to entertain and is riddled with problems even if it was implemented.

More to the point though, a definite yes to Pauls bit-on-the-side.

Rights come with responsibilities, a lot of people want one without the other.
You have the right to have kids, you have the responsibility to put their needs ahead of your own. If you can't take the responsibility then you can get $&#$% on your "rights".

What right is being violated?

The right to be irresponsible and bring children you can't afford to raise into the world?
The right to force other people to pay for your lack of forward thinking/planning?

Also no-one if forcing anything, if you don't want the contraception, don't take the money. If you object for religious reasons, then your church (& family/friends) can put their money where their mouth is and support you and your rugrats.

I am not suggesting sterilisation, just contraception. Once you get yourself off the bones of your arse and into a position to support yourself (and hopefully any children you choose to have) then you are no longer collecting the DPB/dole you no longer have to have contraception.

It won't entirely get rid of the long term bludgers, but it would reduce the problem, and break the poverty cycle to some extent.

I don't agree with taking children off parents, the quality of care in foster care is pretty hit and miss, and the parents just go on to have more kids. Former neighbours are a case in point, she'd already had (2?) kids taken off her, now she has two more, He already has two grown children, now two more. He literally did not know how to bathe a baby (his 4th child), he had to get a friend to come and do it for him when she left him with the kids for a night. Strangely enough, they are splitsville. And steroetypically, both are heavy smokers, SKY dish and internet for TAB were the first things they got when they moved in next door.

Time society said enough already!

im not trying to claim what we have now is perfect, far from it. but have you considered what happens when you essentially create more poverty and inequality? have a think about what its like to live in a place like Brasil. desperate people take desperate measures. cutting off the pittance some people eke out an existence from would have the reverse effect to what you want IMO - poor people tend to have more kids.

NZ has typically prided itself on being pretty egalitarian, at least in the past. john key himself speaks of coming from a state house, as does colin craig and i believe david cunliffe too - all have done well for themselves, even putting their political careers aside. this, IMO, is because of the opportunity being born in NZ afforded them. these three probably pay more tax than all of toyspeed combined, but if support had not been there for their parents where would they be now? apparently according to some of the posters above they shouldnt even have been born.

NZ is a pretty great place to live. opportunity and (relative) equality. our welfare system is a big part of that, and it extends far beyond the DPB or whatever its called now. ACC, public healthcare, working for families, public education...

i'd love to see a party build a platform around getting rid of all that stuff. be interesting to see how much support it garners, i suspect it would look a lot like ACT.

What im proposing does not create more poverty and inequality, it does exactly the opposite. It prevents more kids being born into poverty.

firstly, it is Roman Catholics that don't use contraception. Few Christians have an issue with it(or some forms of it at least)
It surprises me how Janika giggles too much/too long even at Paul Henry's less witty comments. It's like she's had two glasses of wine before she does the show.
Perhaps she is employing "wine glasses", the female equivalent to our "beer glasses" :)

Maybe Paul has a "tickle Janika" button hidden under the desk... and it does something with her chair
