93 fxgt no go

Postby Wellyfxgt » Sun Jun 15, 2014 8:32 pm

Hi,

New to forum, bought a 93 ae101 corolla about a month ago, love the car even though its auto.

Has been running fine, then last week it decided not to start all of a sudden, I've read the forum and hired out haynes manuals to sort issue.

Car starts then dies, Ive tested the fuses, relay, checked fuel pressure, bridged diagnostic and heard fuel pump going, removed fuel filter and checked for blockage also cranked and fuel came thru fine.

Got a diagnostic fault code 41 which is throttle position sensor, but arent confident that this is 100% the issue, ive heard that the ecm might have a fault with leaking capacitor caps. I havent checked the ecm yet.

What are everyones thoughts, check ecm... then go from there?

Thanks

How much fuel pressure? Have you checked for spark when it stops, injectors firing?

I'd recommend borrowing another ECU and trying that or pulling it apart and examining the capacitors. The TPS code comes from a fault in the idle switch circuit, if you haven't been stuffing around with it I'd be hesitant to point the finger until you'd tried another ECU.. the lack of codes is normally significant of a fault in the ECU itself.

ECU would be my guess also, followed closely by AFM which would give exactly the symptoms you have described.

Cambelt - maybe lost a few teeth off the belt and got out of time.
Air flow meter - fuel pump switch failed. Jumper fuel pump connector in the diagnostic plug
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
