Intake pipe popped off

Postby cat007 » Sat Jun 28, 2014 5:49 pm

Hey all

Noticed today that my intake pipe between air filter and turbo had popped off.

What would cause this?

There's nothing connected to the intake pipe, turbo one end, filter at the other...

Probably just engine vibration if there is no support for the pipe

Hopefully - but it was done up pretty tight IIRC.

What if there was a large amount of compressor surge - would that cause air flowing the wrong way?

Won't matter how tight it's done up if there's no bead on the compressor inlet to stop it popping off

hah - yeah I thought about that - although the compressor housing reduces down from 4" to whatever size the compressor wheels inducer is anyway (I think it's 56 or 58mm), so not sure if there'd be much of an advantage going 4" from the filter to turbo?
