Air intake supercharged 94' trueno

Ok so recently bought myself a manual trueno gtz - supercharged etc. standard apart from ricer mods like wheels, stereo etc except the previous owner has decided that it was a great idea to change the intake to a piece of stainless heat absorbing crap and actually tbh a pretty good pod filter. My problem is, and refer to the photos, is that I'm looking at the engine bay and am trying to find the airflow sensor. I'm hoping the ecu is getting a reading or something and isn't in some template mode and causing wear and tear. Any info would be great. I've noticed the pipe in the picture above the stainless with the bolt to block the hose seems to share my intake vacuum reading so is it from what I'm guessing to be the standard bov? Going to get a boost gauge in the next few days (if anyone has a spare one for sale) and make sure I'm not free boosting.

Pretty sure the ae101 4agze are MAP sensored, not AFM. Also, stainless is a shit heat conductor (for a metal), and the surface area is pretty low so it wont have that much effect.

Theres no such thing as free boosting with a supercharger, its tied to crank speed so it can't go spinning itself to oblivion like a turbo can.

Lol yeah that is logical lol. My first supercharger. So the pipe that they've blocked with a bolt should I plumb that back into the intake somewhere. I feel I should :/

You won't have to worry about the stainless pipe absorbing heat , the filter will do a much better job of passing the hot air in the engine bay straight into the motor.
I would look at putting the filter somewhere it can take in cold air , either box it with a cold feed ,or put it in the guard or at least at the front of the car.

Yeah so i have had a look where to move the filter to and it can be mounted lower right behind the radiator so should minimize the heat soak i probably have.
Have also plumed the random hose with the bolt blocking it back into the intake by putting a "T" join in a pre existing hose. Car feels smoother under power but no real difference, am waiting to see if im running better on fuel, will know by tonight.
Thanks for your help guys, will update it all soon and extend my intake pipe hopefully tomorrow.
Has anyone got a boost gauge they're willing to part with? PSI preferably

Putting the air filter behind the radiator is not a good idea at all, think of how a radiator works, you will be putting it directly in the flow of hot air.

still the air has to be cooler than the crap im getting from the exhaust. ill leave it till a club meeting maybe and hear peoples ideas when they see how its been done. thanks again

All you need to know really. If you can locate a factory intake, chuck that in. But in reality, as per the video, it's not going to make a big difference.

That's exactly what I needed to see. Thanks man. The old owner of course threw away the old set up so may have to try and do the best I can. Probably will relocate my battery and build a cold air box there just to regain the lost power.

If you're doing it for the enjoyment of modifying it, all good, it is fun. But in all seriousness, it's going to cost a few bucks to buy all the parts needed to relocate the battery and build a cold air box. And I just don't think you'd even notice any difference. If you keep an eye out, or perhaps even place a "wanted to buy" ad in the buy and sell section on here, someone might have all the bits you need they can sell you for less. A K&N panel filter in a stock airbox is often the best bang for buck way to go.

Just route an alloy pipe between the battery and the fusebox so it goes through the factory resonator box hole and comes out under the front left corner of the bumper.

That's how I've had it set up on my AE101 for years and it has worked well. As long as you don't drive through stupidly large puddles then you'll have nothing to worry about.

There's already a hole in the metal, you just have to make it larger with a Dremel/rotary tool.

Lol fair enough . It would take a lot to actually wet the filter, so if you were driving into bumper-deep puddles I think you'd have bigger problems to worry about

Yeah well I think I'll get the tractor out soon and smooth it all over. This is just a run around car anyway so not too fussed on doing too much to it.
