I have driven both pretty extensively, most fun I ever had was in a facelift 2ltr turbo GTB 6 speed manual, was really quick and handled great.

I would own either very happily, if you DO go for the turbo model then get someone to reflash the ECU as there are big gains to be had there for between 500-1000$ (20kw,50nm)

Bringing this back from the coma, I test drove 2 wagons today, a Manual 3.0 and an auto 2.0 Turbo. The 3.0 was the winner on the day. So thats what I'm hunting for.
Prefer white or black not fussy on transmission. Man ,they are pretty grunty, and I've driven ferraris and lambos haha

3.0 Manual > 2.0T Tiptronic
2.0T Manual > 3.0 Tiptronic & 2.0T Tiptronic

2.0T Tiptronic (with remapped ECU and subtech front pipe) > than above
2.0T Manual (with remapped ECU and subtech front pipe) > than above

Just saying comparing the 3L manual to a stock 2.0T tiptronic isnt really a good comparison to fully discount getting a 2.0T.

Especially with remapping, the 2.0L wins in

a) fuel economy
b) power
c) acceleration and smoothness

Ive driven all the above :) bar a remapped 2.0T Manual which would be epic.

You did PM me a while back with lots of info but I can no longer find them sadly.
I feel you on the modified route of a 2L, but those days are over for me, plus thats an extra 1k on top of the car price no doubt.
Quiet, comfortable and powerful is the new name of the game.

I thought the same, but then ended up selling my 3.0R after 8 months and buying a V8 Nissan

If you want comfort i'd definately recommend finding a non spec-b (if they make a 6 speed 3.0R wagon that isn't spec b?) The Bilsteins and 18's make for a very firm ride!

When I was looking for a new wagon, everything I read pointed towards getting the 3.0 manual if going down the non turbo route. Chain driven motor, and super reliable, nothing really to go wrong with them.

Is the 2.0R a bit of a wet fish? Power specs comparable to a 215 GT Caldina... I was looking at one as a replacement but now I'm second guessing after reading all this.

I thought the 2.0l use almost as much fuel as the 3.0 litre.

Ive got a 2.0R wagon
DOHC ej20

MUCH better than the SOHC ej20 - these are junk

Goes quite well - one of the better 'normal' 2 litre family cars

They do drive nice and sporty

Its ohkay on fuel - definitely better than the GT for the sort of driving we use it for (baby duties)

Still not exactly a performance option though

I recently bought a 2005 2.0GT wagon, so turbo 2L, leather, the works pretty much. Single turbo model.

Open road, driving sensibly I am getting around 7.8L/100km. That was to Rotovegas and back, obeying the speed limit 99% of the time and generally just cruising along.
Around town but at least half motorway I get 8.6L/100km.
Around town, not much motorway, I get around 10L/100km.

It drives pretty well, but is a tad sluggish off boost if you get caught in a bad situation (that darned person who decided that indicating their intentions on the roundabout was not important).
On boost it has plenty of poke and can easily get you in to trouble with the 5-0.

Heated seats in winter is AWESOME!

The GT ride is a tad harsh (with my rims, hitting anything that remotely looks like a pot hole is a spine tingling experience), I'd think that people who are more used to a slushy rolla or equiv would think the GT is very harsh. But I'm used to a modified AE86 with no interior, so it's luxurious no matter how you spin it! In fact, if I had my way, I'd look to uprate the sway bars (remove a little more of the boatiness) and drop the rims 1 inch (improve ride comfort).

I'm of the opinion that a non-turbo would drive well, but in a wagon format could feel a little underpowered given the weight.
My mate has a 2.0L auto sedan and it drives pretty well. I personally don't like the slushbox. Whenever I drive it, it feels "harsh" on the shifts and sometimes holds gears more than I would expect from a slushy.
