Jun flywheel paint?

Postby ®usty » Sun Aug 24, 2014 10:08 pm

Just regarding my new Jun flywheel I have. It's painted or anodised black from Jun.

For people who have bought and installed a Jun flywheel, did you have this on your flywheel? Did you remove it from the surface area the clutch disk touches?

Interesting....my JUN flywheel never looked like that.

If it was me i would clean up the clutch disc area as best as possible with brakeclean. I would hazard a guess at that might be a soft sealer to protect against corrosion.

I'm more than liking guessing it's either black oxide(black zinc) to protect it from rust/corrosion or it may well be that colour from nitriding depending on he material they use

Im sure its zinc. Just like how many brake disc rotors are done these days to stop rust.
Once you run the clutch the zinc will burn away in the friction area.

I also flicked an email to Jun, not half expecting a reply but I just got this in the inbox

Thank you for your mail. The black color is for hardness by heat
treatment (nitridization, nitriding). Dont mention it.
Thank you,
