Idle Speed Control Valve Block

Postby solitaire » Sun May 03, 2015 5:22 pm

Hi,

Working out a few of the final kinks with the levin (4age smallport)

Idle is really high, like 2500rpm at it's worst point.

After some tooling about including removing throttle body and giving it a bit of a clean, and some internet research I tried blocking the isc intake hole in the throttle body with my finger. It idle's nice and low and any turning of the wheels (checking how it behaves with the extra load of power steering) does not seem to both it too much.

I am considering blocking up this hole as i think the ISC is either faulty or jammed. It's possible there is another vacum leak somewhere i guess but i have no idea where or how to start looking, and i'm over trying to over complicate things, blocking this hole seems to fix my issue.

Any feedback on this idea? I understand the whole toyota put it there for a reason thing but im looking for a reasonable solution that will not take too long to implement.

If you have blocked this before, any tips on how to block it?

thanks

chalkie

Had similar problem in the past - I used an ear plug.
Stayed in place for several years until I sold it!
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

This ^^^^ or you can remove the ISCV and replace it with a blanking plate.
Alternatively, you can take the ISCV off and replace the Toyota gasket with
a homemade gasket that does not have any holes other than for the fixing
screws. Does the same job as a blanking plate without having to whittle a
piece of aluminum to shape.

We're talking the green block on the throttle body?

If so, Ive often found its just gummed up - and just need to be pulled off and cleaned up thoroughly with brakeclean/throttle body cleaner- ideally you remove the electrical block so you can work it manually while cleaning it

It's not green on mine, but it's got the wax thing that melts when the engine is hot.

I didn't shoot cleaner in there as i was worried there might be something plastic in there... safe enough.?

Just a thought... would kneed-it work to block the hole? On the suction side there is a spring that would block it,
