Caldina GTT, alt died not is fine.

Postby magweal » Tue May 05, 2015 10:32 am

Hey guys

I have an odd one.
I drove into work yesterday, by the time i got there everything was dead just like the alt had gone. I changed the alt to a known good one only to find that the made no difference.
It seems to me that the alt is not getting the trigger from the ECU to charge.

Has anyone else had this issue or could know what it is.
This is my daily so it needs to be running otherwise no work = no money = living on the streets.

When you turn on the ignition (but not start) is the battery light on?
if not check the "Alt" fuse in engine bay fuse box (should be about 7.5A or so).

Hi Sergei theres no battery light coming on and the fuse looks ok but I will change that tonight justr incase.
Non of the dash is lighting up expect the airbag and seatbelt, the gauges are not working either, nor the radio and heater although i suspect that is down to the ECU shutting down anything not required for driving to prolong the battery.

It sounds like you blew a few fuses.

If the dash is malfunctioning then it could be a short inside the dash cluster itself. My old GTT was an auto and I was halfway to the bay of islands when it decided to have a total mare - rev counter and speedo randomly worked and then the auto started changing gears by itself etc. Traced it back to a short in the dash cluster on one of the PCB's. In my case it was stopping the speed signal from getting back to the ecu which then made the auto have a spaz. Bridged the section of the board and never had an issue again.
