Rego on hold and Indursnce

Post by BZG Wagon »

I've just put the registration on hold for my Nissan Terrano. I called AMI to see if that would trigger a temporary reduction in insurance; they said it doesn't - does this sound right?

And if I move to 3rd party I lose all my ability to make a claim (up to 2 in a year) without losing my no-claims bonus (AMI Freebemax).

Rang twice - both people I spoke to on the phone sounded very unsure & new.

Generally standard insurance is for cars being driven so I doubt their policies have allowance for being parked up. You can get specific under construction/in storage insurance but doubt you would save much. How long do you plan to have it off the road?

That sounds about right / is the same as what I have experienced with having the KE off the road.

I've moved mine from "general" cover to "storage" cover (I go through a broker), inclusive in my "storage" cover is the ability to move the vehicle when required (on a traylor)

Great thanks for the info. I'll ask about storage insurance.

I'm not sure how long it will be off the road for. I now live overseas and it just needs some rust taken care of in the rear wheel aches, so I won't warrant it until the next trip back to NZ.

I inquired about this through my broker and the saving between the 2 were negligible, Although I was insuring a race car and the premiums were already cheap as its limited mileage etc..
Might be different on a road vehicle
