Crashed into.. dodgy details given.

Postby RS13 » Tue Aug 22, 2017 6:25 pm

So I mentioned a few months back that my wife was crashed into while stationary at the lights. Had to pay our excess until the dropkick claimed on his insurance, however after ringing AMI for an update today they say the details he gave us were incorrect and the address the Rav4 was registered to seems to be wrong as the letters they sent bounced back.

Pretty pissed off that it has cost me the $300 excess and the car will never be as mint as it was due to his stupidity. What to do? We didn't lay a police complaint due to the minor nature of the crash, would it be worth talking to them to see if they can do anything? Determined to get my $300 back..

That sucks D:

Im really not sure if you can do much, do you have a name or anything or is that fake too?

When someone has caused me damage like this in the past, I "get their details" and then i actually get their details, write down rego, their name and home\number, then make them produce their license and ring the numbers, its caught out one guy a doozy who thought he could get away with dodgy details, only to stand there red faced as I photographed his license and then asked for his real numbers as the ones he gave were duds

Then when you're filing the police report, let them know about their dishonesty and if they tried to flee, and they can choose to make their day worse if they want to chase up those niggling character issues of theirs

Hopefully you can get something to find them!

Bit late now but after one of our crashes, our panel beater who we get on with pretty well advised asking for their driver's license (proving who they are and whether they are licensed to drive) and photos of the license and them if you can. PPhotos of their Rego and WoF doesn't hurt either!

We have had our excess waived twice now because of the information we've supplied.

My wife took photos of everything she could, he couldn't produce a licence but had his community services card so she took a photo of that. The guy is who he says he is (I turned up just as they were leaving to make sure the car was driveable) as I found him and his son on FB, just gave us bad contact details and it appears that he didn't own the car or is ignoring the letters from the insurance company.

Could be worth visiting the police and explaining the situation. Perhaps let them know you'd like to create some paperwork for them if you can't locate his actual details to have them forwarded to insurance. Fraud should be taken seriously, so push them to help you get the details / results you're after.

Name / shame?

Your insurance is bullshitting you. The policy is identified uninsured driver, you have identified them and provided enough details so the excess should be covered. Go read the policy wording and keep going up the chain at the insurance company until they pay out the excess.

Damn that sucks.

Van man who drove into the Blade denied liability to my insurer, I had to fill in a statement of my version of events and I had no excess to pay for the replacement doors. Not sure how he could argue that I drove into him when it was only my doors that had impact

Rang them again. They put me on hold while they spoke to the "claim consultant" or something, to which they said that they couldn't get hold of him (through the details he gave or the rego details) and that I was basically stuck until they found him, which they didn't sound too hopeful about. Probably going to lay a police complaint for false details if I can.

"Your excess is the amount you must contribute as the
first payment towards the cost of each claim you make.
However, we will refund your excess if your vehicle is
involved in an accident and we find that you or the driver
of your vehicle was not to blame.*"

They can't refund us if they can't talk to him to make sure what happened actually happened.
