I was going to mention that as weren't Bridgestone paying for all Ferrari's testing at one stage.

Mind you I always thought that Michelin had the advantage as the majority of the teams were using them and they would have had a h*ll of alot more data.

Yeah thats basically it. The only good team running the bridgestones was Ferrari, and then every other good team was on the michelins.

So they had no option but to pound around fiorano day after day, just to gather a similar amount of data.

Im glad that there isnt a tyre war anymore though, and this years tyres are going to be hard enough to understand it seems, atleast theyre all on the backfoot slightly so the year is going to be amazing

I find it so ironic that all of a sudden, RBR have gone from a relaxed, fun loving, non political team, to a team where now Christian Horner is right at the forefront of pushing the FIA to ban ideas like this because "its not what the rules intended" (read: we didnt think of it first so it needs to be banned)

But yet RBR have specifically tested atleast 4 different exhaust outlet designs, including multiple body work changes to try to channel the gasses to the diffuser, which is clearly not in the spirit of how the regulations were intended.

They have even gone so far as to be bad sports in so much that they purposely impeded other cars in the pitlane to try and slow them down by leaving their airlines in the way, and even going so far as to put their men out in the pit box at a time when they didnt intend on pitting one of their own cars, just to ensure the team behind them had a far slower exit line from their box, something I have never seen in my time watching the sport.

Its a shame as I love RBR's seemingly relaxed, casual approach to the sport, but now the pressure is on them, all of a sudden they have u-turned and are more vocal than ever, although I believe alot of it has to do with them trying to keep everyones lips talking about Mercedes to distract people from analysing their own questionable interpretations of the new rules.

To me this is the essence of F-1 though people come up with idea's and if it is pushing the edge of the rules or breaking it and it helps there performance vs everyone else other teams try and get it banned.

On a sidenote and a positive for Ferrari there pitstops sub 3 seconds to get tyres on cars is pretty impressive and no doubt will help there cause this season i saw some of there pitlane excursions were upto 3-4 seocnds quicker than everyone else from woo to go I was pretty impressed by that.

I completely agree with you mate. And to me, its a huge part of my addiction to F1.

But I just find it odd how quickly a teams attitude can change from super casual, to campaigning to the FIA strongly about other cars, if their own results arent there.

My only bone to pick is when teams purposely design ideas that they know go against the spirit of the regulations and try to get around it by interpretation of the wording. We all know that they know its wrong to do, but they do it anyway.

Its all part of the show though

Don't think it would have made it to TV but at the Melbourne GP while being interviewed about his qually by the GPTV (local event tv) he nonchalantly said "yeah we $&#$% that up didn't we" .. queue whole crowd laughing

Please find below a response that we have received from our Sports Department, explaining why we decided to go with the feed from the BBC:

Background
SKY Sport NZ has had F1 coverage since 2006 and have always negotiated to take the UK’s host commentary. (previously ITV and then BBC)
For the 2012 we had a choice to make between SKY UK and the BBC over whose commentary team to take for the Formula 1 this year.
After investigation over quality, value and benefits plus feedback from the New Zealand motorsport community we have decided to continue our relationship with the BBC.

With the BBC Commentary option we get access to the following benefits:
An Internationally renowned commentary team of talented and knowledgeable experts
Full coverage of the whole race weekend including Practise, Qualifying and Main race (Sky UK would only allow us to take the commentary of Race coverage only)
The ability for New Zealand race fans to communicate and ask questions with BBC Radios Five Live race commentary team.

We felt the pros outweighed the cons on this occasion."

TBH, I actually dont mind Coulthard and the other guy. And if means we get all the practice sessions and qualifying, I say thanks to SKY TV. Otherwise we would probably get stuck with useless NZ presenters voicing the practice and qually sessions by the sounds of things.

In regards to the BBC coverage - Eddie Jordan shouldn't be a live co-host imo. He is not very articulate. And some of what he says makes no sense. He seems like a good character tho. But I have nfi how he ran an f1 team. I have been watching the sky coverage this year, so haven't heard the new commentator.

Seems like its been forever since the last race!

Hopefuly we get a dry weekend so we can really get a feel for who's where in the grand scheme of things.

On another note, Mitch Evans has been dominating the GP3 testing, pretty much smashing the field by half a second today. Hopefuly he can clean up this year and step up to GP2 next year.
