in my experience, your average american serving wench has 10x the friendliness and helpful attitude of servers working in way classier places in NZ.
its in their best interests to do well as their livelihood depends on people liking them.
as long as everyone gets behind it tipping works great, you just have to look at it as part of the expense and not be a stingy kiwi while you are there
Yep.
Just got back from a night out. Had a good yarn with out waitress. We kept tipping her well enough to keep her coming back. Beers were only $3 each, so cheap as. Easy to afford a good tip, especially what my allowances are here.
Tipping well helps heaps, but also just saying you're from New Zealand gets you a lot to hehehe.
Damn straight. Restaurant service in NZ is appalling unless you are fine dining and paying $150+ for two. My other half is Canadian and she says the same thing, tipping makes service better. Here the servers get their minimum wage regardless so they don't care

Hey Matt.
Good to hear you're getting the ECU in now. It'll definitely help to bring out the full potential of your engine and also get rid of the problems you've been having with it.
Should make it a whole lot more fun to drive too.
Got to get my cars going when I'm back, but hoping to buy some nice American toys to go onto the Blacktop motor for the FX .
Might get something for the Levin, but it's pretty much ready to be cleaned up and tuned. Got to sort out intercooler piping replacement first.

this is for science.
Sorry for taking so long, but the Twinkie report had been carried out.
Conclusion is that they are are a golden sponge cake with creamy filling of goodness..................................... NOT! Kinda sweet and sickly really.
The only thing I have to worry about now, is trying to eat the whole box of ten.
Science is hard work man.
Well the experiments continue. One of the guys ate one in one mouth full. lets just say he wasn't feeling so flash afterwards. I'd say it was the mix or sickingly sweet cream and the beers he had previous added to the overall result.
We decided not to try this when sober, for fear of the consequences.
It has also be hypothesised that only cockroaches and twinkies will be the survivors of a nuclear war. So, which will win overall, a twinkie or a cockroach?
Yep, I'd say.
I'm still getting used to their 'bacon'. I like a good rasher of bacon, not these crispy strips of fat and marginal amount of actual meat.
No wonder there are so many 'large' People here.
what is the car scene like over there. i know when i was in LA all i saw were fords and more fords. are there many jap cars in the area you are. i seen to in the two weeks i were there. a 20v levin and a s4 rx7. they look like midgets on the road compeared to what everyone alse was driving. been to tacko bell?
The car scene is mainly Fords and Chevs. A LOT of utes and pickups (whatever they call them).
I've seen probably ten different Hummers since I've been here too. Seen some really nice Corvette's, which is sweet cause I like Corvettes.
I also saw a Dodge Viper the other day, Very nice!
We are staying in a motel right net to the I-30 (interstate 30), so we see a poo load of trucks and stuff heading through to the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
I went to the local drag strip on Saturday night. Saw some pretty cool cars there. Even one Evo turned up and also a GTi Golf and a Mistibushi Eclipse (which was really poo).
Well, I took some time off my Twinkie experiments to go check out the local drag racing scene on Saturday night.
