depending on your morals sounds pretty rational to try get off the ticket you have nothing to lose.

I dont see any problem in trying to get off a speeding fine, probably wont work but hey if it does sweet as saves you $100 or whatever plus those annoying demerits. How is writing a letter away to try your luck going to embarrass you? Some of the comments on this topic seem over the top to me, I think some people on here might have angry old man syndrome lol :lol:

Burden of proof is different in civil cases, if they got the date and time wrong on the ticket then in a criminal case all he has to do is prove he was elsewhere at the time stated. However if someone witnessed him crashing into the fence, then in a civil case the balance of probability is used and therefore he would be responsible.

could be wrong, but i heard they changed the rules on that kind of thing

i got off a "sustained loss of traction" ticket a while ago though
was a load of rubbish as there was no loss of traction at all, but anyway the officer wrote the wrong date on the ticket so i wrote them a nice letter saying i was not at the stated location on that particular date and they replied saying to further action will be taken and i dont need to pay
no idea what their reasoning was but it was that easy, it can work sometimes

I'd say it depends on the speed and how many times you have written in before.
I personally have gotten off speed camera fines from writing in with legitimate reasons.

So, I would say if you can come up with a decent reason and it was not in excess of 20kph over the speed limit your chances are as good as any to get off.

People posting "you did the crime now pay the fine" - lulz, not helpful.
Just because you get a piece of paper saying give us money does not ultimately mean you have to.....

Ive got a legitimate reason for wanting to get out of a ticket.

Was at my friends place 1 night in my stock 1800cc curren. Pulled out, drove 100m with a cop following me (Didnt know, it was dark), pulled down my road, into my driveway and he followed me into my driveway, flashed his lights and basically told me he watched the drift i did. I was a bit confused how my stock curren (FWD) drifted down my road, still having cold tyres and he still was adamant in ticketing me for drifting but said hed have to mail it to me. :roll:

About 5 days later, i got a letter in the mail for a "summons to court" for DIC, and a ticket for sustained loss of traction, evading police, and speeding. I promptly called my uncle who was a solicitor and drove down to my local police station and made a formal complaint about the officer.

I had 4 witnesses IN the car, 1 who was a cop :lol:

, and 2 at home when the cop "Pulled me over".

I was never breathalised, nor was i speeding, nor did i evade police (How do you run from them, if you dont know theyre chasing you? :lol:

)

Got off the lot, sure my wheel spun for a miniscule second, but seriously?

Are you part on the generation that doesn't feel they should take an responsibility for their actions and also expect everything handed to them on a plate with no hard work put in?

i have only ever been pulled up for speeding once, and to be honest i didnt even no i was speeding. But i was in the wrong so i paid it the same week i got it.

But then there was a time where i was driving a friend of a friends van for them (sober driver) got stung with $600 fines. They had been pulled up night before in it and warned, didnt tell me about it and because i was the driver i got done over. Butto cut long story short i wrote in and was let off.

Sure if the cop is an ass or your innocent write in,
but if your guilty grow up a bit, take it on the chin and pay the fine

I heard of someone recently who didn't get a ticket for speeding or failing to stop for the police, because they had really bad diarrhoea. But I'd say that's an exception to the rule

I got done last week allegedly doing 113kph.
i'd just pulled onto motorway in my usual fashion

cop was in fast lane and shot across 3 lanes to jump in behind which i spotted so slowed to less than 110. he trails me for a couple hundy meters and then turns his lights on just before next offramp.
comes over blah blah, speed checked you
me "huh? how far you need to trail me for"
officer "400m"
me"so how fars 400m?"
officer"you're the engineer you work it out" (so almost LOL'ed at this one bloody nice comeback)

basically there's no chance he followed me for 400m which i pointed out, i also pointed out that my own gps had me at 114.

not going to defend just pay the fine and be glad i didn't get caught at 'other' times

Did you hear anything about your complaint?

I'm all for disputing a ticket when it is obviously a load of crap, but as for the original author of this thread, He/she is wanting to get off a ticket because the day of the week was wrong :lol:

yea poster 1 i think u need to bit the bullet and just pay the ticket. as others have said it might not hurt to give it a try if ya want. but....

i got a ticket for no wof one day (fair enough i dont dispute that) i got given the ticket for $150 and away i go. on a tight budget so start saving over the next few weeks to pay the $150 then a few weeks later get a reminder for my $200 ticket wtf the ticket was for $150. apparently the officer wrote the wrong amount why is that my fault? they also got my number plate wrong and other details i still had to pay the 200 which i felt was unfair since the ticket i got was for 150 and then they just send me the reminder with 200 on it gggrrrr

and yea helps with who u know.... my ex (was a member on here but will remain unnamed) got caught racing another car down the auckland motorway they were clocked at 158 but were doing much faster than that. the cop at the time pulled up the honda as apparently they were going faster as we had started to slow down the cop wrote down his rego etc he got sent a letter saying that he would lose his licence but he had moved so dident go to his address went to his parents place. so he played out that he hadn't got the letter and just plain avoided the cops for 3 months if they turned up or rang hed say that he wasent home etc then played on a technicality that they couldent charge him for it anymore so never lost his licence or got a ticket or anything. how did he manage to pull this off? his dad was a cop and told him about it and then after the three months rang the cop that caught him and reminded him about the 3 month technicality

That and the fact I stated I was on my way to get it fixed.
No money paid - 67ks in a 50k zone - speed camera.

I fail to see how having a run down car is a legit reason for speeding

No need to make personal assumptions, I was simply saying you don't always need to pay....

Take no action and you will have to pay.
Come up with a valid reason the coppers are willing to accept and you can get off the fine.....

Whats the problem with that?
