Road Rules - who gives way? (part 1)

How can anyone get this wrong? Oh i know all the people who i just about hit when they fail to give way, The Yellow car definately has to give way

trying to be tricky! the question related to the pic above, so techniqully your answer was incorrect! well that part that related to it was anyway.
i know what your saying, just it doesnt apply to the question in the first post

theres hundreds of intersections like that around....
end of my st for one.

You know what - you're absolutely right.
And I voted incorrectly on this poll too.

It does bring to light some interesting misunderstandings, doesnt it??

My point stands however that in most cases the road should be marked up with a giveway out of the side road.

What also makes it interesting is that in almost all situations I experience on the road, the yellow car puts their vehicle in the path of the blue car whilst waiting for clear road. This would be correct _where the road is marked with a give way or stop sign_. I wonder how many people do it when the road is not so marked?

How very interesting...

If this thread serves to bring to peoples attention how easy it is to get this one wrong, then good stuff to snwtoy for posting it.

PS: It is actually explicitly stated in my copy of the Road Code for Heavy Vehicle Drivers (being the most recent Road Code issue I have) - that the statement 'give way to right turners on your right' is always followed, and even shows a picture of this exact example.

here is an example of the intesection.

It is the corner of Radcliffe and Blakes Roads, and there is also one at Radcliffe and Hawkins Roads, belfast.

The intesection confused me the first time I went thru it but it is definitely the yllow car which Gives Way.

When i was learnign to drive in Levin pretty much every T junction was like that, recently when ive passed through there seems to be a whole lot of give way signs that have sprung up everywhere so the "dumb" drivers are'nt so confused :lol:

Well I do hope people may have learned something. I drive through two of these intersections every day on the way to and from work - part of the reason I posted this and the other one. They're both not far from where I live, and I've only once been given way to when I have row (according to the roadcode).

I honestly think the rule is stupid, and the only time it is useful for drivers is when you need some panelbeating done - ie pull out knowing you're in the right when you claim on insurance.

I remember checking this exact situation up in the road code a number of years ago and it had no instance of this picture. It had the 'give way to traffic of the right' rule, and it also had some rule/statement that said the person coming off the main road had right of way (so that they're not blocking traffic).
This situation has been ambiguous for the whole time that I have been driving (12 years) and the road code examples as it stands now are stupid.

The yellow car should go first, it's safer.

whats so hard???? NOTHING

just once again proves its driver education that is failing. nothing wrong with the rules, its the system that doesnt train drivers properly

Thanks mr. snowtoy for doing this, certainly brings a lot to think about, woul;d have been better if people didnt post there opinions and answers so we got a proper idea of who knows what :idea:

Yeah but i mean it would show a more correct idea on who knows their road rules if something was taken directly from the road code and everyone voted without scrolling down first to read what other people had said, You never know it may have turned out that people actually did know the correct answer (according to the code) but were acting like sheep and just picked what someone else had said :lol:
