ahh the black magic of insurance premiums.. I don't think the company's that think of them even know how it works.. When I had my lotus 7 replica, it was a $200 cheaper than my slow stock standard 1994 honda rafaga.. but my bill has gone down now I am 25.. I can recommend going through a broker (find a good one though), they do all the hard work. And I find easy them to deal with - only 1 place to call for all insurance..

I was with Pioneer for about $1200PA, no mods listed and without them knowing about me losing my license. Made the change to CLIC in February. $1040ish all mods listed, all my offences and with the GF as a driver (who has her learners) plus the excess with them is lower, and the people on the phone actually seem to understand you when you're describing your car to them.
Im after insurance on my ke30 again.
Pretty modified in the sense that all that is from a ke30 is the body and interior.
The catch is im 21 and i want to insure the care for a agreed value. NOT market value.
Im only want to insure it for 10k for it which i think is very reasonable seeing as 30k or so would have been spent on it.
It is 1.6l turbo 5 speed.
Any brokers or companies i should try?
Last time i tried NAC etc they would only do market value, they ask you the value of the car and charge you by that but when it comes to paying out they pay you the lesser of market value or the value you insured your car at.

Heres one to think about..
20 yr old male, 1 speeding ticket in over 5 years of driving, had my full for almost 4 years.
My curren - 1.8l manual, custom bodykit, sounds, no other mods, agreed value for 7, costs me less than my civic does.
My civic - 1.6l vtec, rollcage, swaybars, mags, lowered, modified engine, stripped interior.
Yes, they know of all the mods.

noelene@johnrae.co.nz sorted my race car insurance out. Though, chances are, I or somebody else has already said that in this thread, as she has sorted out a whole bunch of Welly Toyspeeders for insurance in the past.
Jazza who are you with??
Yeah, they will be my first port of call Leon, thanks for the email address.
Will give clic a ring, yeah im still a young one haha.
Been overseas and too busy with work now so no time for my car.. but i thought i better get some sort of insurance.
It has wof but a out of date cert.. so i suppose i need a up to date cert for insurance to be valid?

I'm going through the process of trying to sort out proper insurance for the MR2 now that I'm 25, and it's not as big of an improvement as I'd hoped. As the original poster of the thread mentioned - tell them the mods are over 25% of the car's value and they're not interested. Not keen on NAC, I'm waiting on a quote from Towes Insurance Brokers (they've been recommended in the past).
AMI said they would insure me but for $1400 a year for the MR2 and $500 for the ZXR
Towes quoted $350 for the ZXR and will get back to me on the car
State said no for full cover on the car, but yes to 3rd party only ($164), and only $174 for the bike.
Classic car insurance are a really cheap option if you do less than 5,000km per year and if the car is garaged. I think they quoted me $300ish for full cover but I wasn't able to do so little km's per year. Might look into them again now that I have a second mode of transport

Yeah, well in my case a ke30 wouldnt have much value, the mods would be a few hundred % of the value ha.
You could always disconnect the speedo every now and then

How about leave the classic car insurance for people wanting fair priced insurance for their CLASSIC cars
.
What mods you got? If you've modded it that much maybe you should be paying a higher premium. Reality is, if you choose to modify a car you should accept you'll have to pay higher insurance.
I'm not directing this at you personally. But these days many people tend to get upset when insurance companies want big money to insure what is in reality a big risk.

Hahaha, just got some quotes back for a WRX, which I asked for $6k of cover.
Bearing in mind, I'm 29 and have had a flawless driving record for 8 years. NAC want $832, $500 standard excess and $900 burglary/theft excess
I was quoted $600 for an RX-7 with $25k cover
Lumley are much more reasonable, $609 p/a with $500 excess + $1k theft.
