Nope, RE are about as anti-bling as you can get, they're purely about performance. That new XXX has about twice the excursion (read - in and out movement) of any other commercial sub on the planet. It can do over 110mm of total linear controlled throw, and even more if you want SPL. To put that in context, most cheap subs have about 10mm total throw, and most good subs somewhere between 20 and 30mm total throw :)

Yep, thats a bit over a tenth of a metre of throw. Go measure it on a ruler ;)

LOL no.

There are 15 world records for SPL. Digital Designs have 11 of them, RE has 4, noone else has anything. They just arent that big in NZ in the mainstream scene because they dont sell via Repco or Trademe.

In NZ at the moment, every single record held is with DD or RE, with the one exception of Brian Horsley's Extreme car which runs Jonah Lomu Fusions :)

How much does one of these fantasmagorical contraptions cost? Will I need to trade in my car to purchase one thus being a pointless investment for me?

Well I guess I could buy it but at the moment I've only got a racecar and it wouldn't like the added weight of a sound system.
