De-gas Air Con...

Post by no_8wire »

How do you do it/how should you do it?

I know I could ring up and get it de-gassed by a professional but
1. I have no time as I need to get the engine out today.
2. I dont want to pay for it...
So where and how do I drain it from?

Just undo any fitting, going through the firewall, bolting onto the pump, etc

Its ok on cars with R134a to release into the atmosphere. Older cars with R2 is a nono to release to atm.

r134a is a HFC refrigerent which has zero ozone deplention but a small green house effect. So yes its still harmful but no where near as bad as R2. Your pumping out more green house gas just using a tank of gas.

and it is EPICALLY bad to release that shit to the atmosphere, I remember hearing somewhere and i have no idea if its true or not, but if you drain the A/C system of a normal car you take out a few cubic kilometers of ozone 8O

for every 1kg of r-12 released 1000kgs or ozone is destroyed. The clorine in the gas seperates the o3 molecules to 02 whics is just oxygen. Sure most cars have 500- 700 grams but thats still alot of skin cancer at the end of the day!! :x R-134a still create green house gasses and is in the processes of being fased out as soon as they can make a propper replacement.

Where has it gone if your a/c is no longer cold/working? I've released one myself, but it only pumped ambient temp air.

are you able to unbolt the compressor from the engine, then pull the engine out? then you won't have to release the gas

R134A is safe to release, i mean the greenhouse gas effect is low, cows do more than R134A. But i set that ur car will be R12, in that case just unbolt the pump from the bracket, easy!

With summer coming, why would you want no aircon? :(
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.
