gsr engine alternator not charging
trying to figure out why alternator isnt putting out any charge, its been replaced twice and theres still no charge, first one from pick a part second one is known working bought from mitsubishi,
checked voltage straight from the alternator and at the terminals, nothing comes from it
anyone know what the blue and red wires do going to the alternator? im wondering if its something to do with these, the car in question is a mirage with a gsr conversion, so was wondering if these got damaged at some point (not as far as i can see though). is there a way to configure these to turn the alternator on or off or something, at least to check the alternator can actually put out a voltage?
there seems to be a lack of good 4g93t wiring diagrams online (or at least a lack in my search skills)
cheers

Re: gsr engine alternator not charging
pretty sure the blue is an earth so if i ground that and give 12v to the red one will that work to test out the alternator? i dont want to accidentally stuff it up so thought id ask, also if that works would it be that bad to ground the blue one and splice the red one into the ignition...?
Re: gsr engine alternator not charging
I like how you're quite happy to play with 240v but 12v is a no no.
Re: gsr engine alternator not charging
Are the blue and red wires factory?
Really need a wiring diagram I guess, or a mitsi forum
has it never worked or has this issue only recently surfaced? Could be less stressful to just get an auto sparky to take a look and see what is going on. Anything else is just guess work, and may cost you more in the end.

Re: gsr engine alternator not charging
does it run ok otherwise? with a jumper on presumably. battery light on?
i'd put money on it being something done during conversion

Re: gsr engine alternator not charging
runs mint as otherwise, runs and boosts fine, zippy little car when you put a charged-up battery in it, that was my thought too, apparently it used to run fine but that could be a fib from the previous owner, it came like this
the blue and red wires appear factory, looks like an unmodified plug, the red one goes to the fuse box and then goes into a bunch of wires going under the drivers guard, but the blue one goes into another bunch of wires through the firewall that has a red one hanging loose... ive thought of connecting them but with my level of knowledge that would just be connecting random loose wires together
240v is all good
that turned out to be a problem with the sockets, not with my wiring

Re: gsr engine alternator not charging
When you say the second one was a known working one, have you had it bench tested? Have bought many an alternator from a wrecker that was "known good" (like they even test them!) that was dud.
Wouldn't have thought the alternator wiring would have needed to be fiddled with for a motor swap

If you google "mitsubishi alternator wiring" and look at the images you should be able to work it out.
See ya

Post the alternator part number and I should be able to give you a diagram.
But if there is a 2 pin plug on it it will probably be Warning light to one terminal,
and the other is sensing which is battery,
If you get the two round the wrong way you can damage it.
Pretty sure it wont have an earth connection apart from the body housing.
