Re: New petrol at Mobil??
It's good that they actually put the RON number on there too. Some stations (Caltex, possibly even Mobil etc) just have 'Premium' so you never really know what you are getting.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Took the front off and did my best to clean up the 1 million litres of oil which pissed out of the oil cooler, all through the radiator, front suspension, tyres etc.. (hose popped off just out of Tokoroa...that was a very expensive tow home). Also removed an oily dead bird.

Did ya get the optional self-parking? (perhaps not as I don't see a reverse camera on the boot either?)

The Crown (Royal, Athlete and Majesta) are on the same floorplan (DBA-UZS) as the Lexus GS350/430. It's the Mark X that's most comparable to the IS250/350.

Dont forget the Audi A3 2.0T- Same running gear as the Golf GTI but slightly larger car and a bit less 'sporty'...doesn't look as agressive either but they are generally a few grand cheaper so are really good buying at the moment.

Re: Can you afford a home in NZ? Mark II
Whether you can 'ride that wave' depends entirely on when you bought. It just isn't sustainable to maintain that high level of capital growth that the Auckland market has seen in the last 15 years (unless wages grow a heap to close the gap between median wages and median houses prices etc).

Re: Can you afford a home in NZ? Mark II
I can afford a house....just like I can afford to pay $10 for a cup of coffee or $20 for a ham sand-whitch.....doesn't mean it's good value. Many people would say 'nah bro, I'm not paying that' and I think many people will do so with housing.

Re: st215 turbo fwd?
Presumably these are imported engines from Japan? (i.e. the Caldina wasn't sold new in the USA?) If so, then surely our knowledge of JDM stuff would give a better idea than their (relatively) less exposure to JDM models and options?

The Z/Fairlady was always the competition I thought.
Mk1 and S130 were both out in 1978.
Mk2 and Z31 were both early 1980s.
JZA70s came in about the same as the Z32s (Comparing JZA70 rather than all Mk3s as the engine tech was a fairly big jump on both Nissan and Toyotas part).

Fill it, check the oil and water and reset the trip meter.
My tank generally takes 40l of 95 and I get between 480- 550 km out of that with no concerted effort to save gas (why drive a small, inconvenient sports car if you can't fang it around the place!)
It's funny though, I generally give it ...
