speedo calibration

Postby Emz » Sat Dec 16, 2006 3:02 pm

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows a place in auckland that I could get my speedo recalibrated.
I've just put bigger mags on my car and even with the thinner tyres they are a bigger circumference, which of course is throwing out the speedo reading.

Thanks

just drive slower.. :P or get an apexi RSM as it can be programmed to compensate for tyre size changes.

Hey Emma, nice ashtray

What size are your new rear tyres?

The stock speedo is probably calibrated to read slightly low anyway, the new tyres might be just making it more accurate.

Yeh, that ashtray is by far the best modifacation. Its good for about 5HP you know. Cheers lol

The new rears are 20s with 305/25 rubber bands around them.

I got a mate to drive next to me on the motorway while i was doing 100km and it looks like its only about 6 or 7km out at that speed.

Rite-o. So your new rear tyres are 660mm tall, the stock 255/40/17's are 636mm tall. Thats not much taller at all aye. Remember your mates speedo is probably reading a good couple kms low also, so although he thought he was on 100, it was probably more like 95ish. I'd check your speedo against the reading from a GPS device (like uniden radar or navman or something). Your speedo will probably be about perfect with those tyres.

btw, those are some pretty fat feet you got on the back, you realise these cars have a tendancy to eat rear tyres right? 8)

...hope you've got a tyre sponsor :D

Yeah you just have to keep a eye on your speed, thats why the police have the 10kph rule, to compensate for speedos that are out.

Nice car btw, dont see many supras that mean business around at all!

Thanks
I've already had one disaster with the rears. When I got them on it looked like they would be fine, but I drove it into work the friday after the new mags went on and noticed my guards were catching the tyres whenever I was accelerating (heavily) and when I pulled into the steep driveway there.
I was mortified to find that the guards had started to eat rings into the tyres! So needless to say I took it straight to mag and turbo to get the guards rolled during my lunch break lol
*stress stress*
It seems ok now, dunno how it will be with passengers in the back thou hehe

Anyway, nows a good excuse to post a pic... if i can figure out how :/
