Did you ever get any MK2's? I bought one that had rusted right through the sill, from the rear wheel arch (which had also rotted through to the rear quarter ) to just behind the front door. I've seen several MK2's do the same.

Never as a personal car. I owned a few as car yard stock. And you're right, over time they could rust.
My point being though that comparatively it was the Japanese brands, and particularly Toyota, that were rusting earlier.

just like most things there age, parts harder to get and costs more to make them go as well as a later car.

Heaps of aftermarket bits still available for Escorts though, moreso than AE86's I'd say! Just check out Palmside's list of bits for them.
