Surprisingly it's the difference between my car being a lot of fun in the wet, vs. only a little fun.
Excuse me if i'm a bit skeptical that 20KG changes the car so much that it goes from being a lot of fun to a little fun. Placebo much?
I guess it is 1.3% weight saving though.
Could be... I'm all for the psychological advantage.
Think about where that weight is though - you're removing weight from behind the rear wheels; wouldn't there be a slight leveraging effect (taking it to at least 1.4%). Also not removing weight evenly from the car so much as you're removing weight from the rear. An empty tank of gas vs. a full tank makes a noticeable difference (60L = 45kg's of fuel), why wouldn't another 20kg help?
You could be right though - I'll take it out this weekend and see if it's noticeable.
Also, someone suggested I build a shelf for the amp to sit inside the spare wheel so removing it doesn't quite matter so much any more - genius.
