Surprisingly it's the difference between my car being a lot of fun in the wet, vs. only a little fun.

Excuse me if i'm a bit skeptical that 20KG changes the car so much that it goes from being a lot of fun to a little fun. Placebo much? I guess it is 1.3% weight saving though.

Could be... I'm all for the psychological advantage. :)

Think about where that weight is though - you're removing weight from behind the rear wheels; wouldn't there be a slight leveraging effect (taking it to at least 1.4%). Also not removing weight evenly from the car so much as you're removing weight from the rear. An empty tank of gas vs. a full tank makes a noticeable difference (60L = 45kg's of fuel), why wouldn't another 20kg help?

You could be right though - I'll take it out this weekend and see if it's noticeable.
Also, someone suggested I build a shelf for the amp to sit inside the spare wheel so removing it doesn't quite matter so much any more - genius.

I live in west Auckland.

Had a puncture in South auckland at 1am.

Caught a taxi back out west, borrowed a car, swapped the tire over, drove car back to west Auckland, walked half an hour home from there, went to sleep. (eventually)

Woke up the next day, walked 1/2 hour to train station, caught two trains, walked 20 minutes to my car and drove it home.

Moral of the story: Always have a warm jacket in your car, you never know when you might need to walk home late at night.

Had a puncture the other day in Linwood during the last big earthquake! Tyre was $&#$%. Wouldn't go anywhere without a spare. I don't see how anyone would ever notice the difference in weight when driving on the road anyhow. Space savers weigh next to nothing.
