What are the laws regarding partially stripped interiors?

I checked google and couldnt find much info on this.

Im planning to go to the next round of nightspeed and want to remove some of the interior to save weight.

Im wanting to remove the rear seats, the spare wheel and a few more parts in the rear. This will all be put back in the next day

What can and cant i remove?

For what the rear seats will weigh, I wouldn't personally bother.

Spare wheel / anything loose though take out for sure. As for legality, i've heard of people running no rear seats but you have to take the belts out too. Again comes down to too much effort for no noticeable gain IMO. Down the strip I ran the same times with a full interior and stripped interior

I've done this before exactly the same as what you listed. If you don't draw any attention to yourself while on the road then you shouldn't have any trouble (speaking from personal experience)
Don't think it's 100% legal to have seatbelts and no seats though
Option 2 is to strip out and refit the interior at the venue. Really easy to do anyways. The only problem then was storage.
You could ask of anyone goin down has space in a van/wagon to spare for the night ni do recall someone else doing this at one of the previous nightspeeds.

My amp recently blew up so i had to removemy sub and the car seems to pick up and hold speed alot easier.

Not sure if it would count but at the winter drags i went to 2 rounds.
1st round i had the sub still in and best i could do was a 18.5
2nd round removed the sub and ran a 18.0.

Hoping to get as much weight out as possible to see what time i can do with this engine (and beat GTTpowers time)

Would i be allowed to remove the passengers seat?

Our bzgs have a little bot more power than his starlet (let's not discuss how much power a 20v has
Times will improve with experience/ trial and
error and in any case I do think every little bit helps.

My starlet has about 4kw more than his but he has 4wd and was limiter launching it and i think he got a 17.87 last round.

Just want to beat his time before i do the engine swap. +40hp

Since the winter drags i have put on lighter wheels and wider tyres so im hoping that and some weight reduction will get me into the 17's

If you get pulled over and your missing the seats etc, just say that the dog ruined them when you left him in the car and you going tomorrow to get new stuff...
Then the next day you can fit the interior back in and show the cop if need be.

Never had an issue with stripped interior in my starlet. Have had it out for the last 7 years and have no issues with wof's or cops etc. Basically as long as the rear belts are out and there is no way someone could be restrained in the rear you are fine.

Should be all good about stripping the main parts of the interior (seats, spare wheel). Dont take out the door cards though, scrutineer said that is a no no.

Also leave pillar covers, and all the trims around driver and front passenger area.

Sweet as so i just need to remove the seatbelts and it should be all right.

Ill only take out the interior behind the front seats excluding the door cards and pillar covers.

But stripping excess weight is like free HP, a free brake upgrade and bonus of better handling.

More HP only makes you faster in a straight line.

All the WoF's I have got with my rear seat out they just noted no seat on the check sheet but required the seatbelts to be in place. My understanding is seatbelts are only removed for permanent seat removal involving a change of class or noting as a 2 seater.

Fuel Economy: Its when you dont have the pedal on the right buried into the firewall every 2 seconds and you can go more than 500k's to a tank of gas.

Complete opposite to what I heard and recall from reading the VIRM. I thought it was either seats and belts or nothing at all. But i'm way too lazy to go looking so I have no proof.

I actually phoned LTSA(NZTA?) with VIRM manual in hand and VINZ inspector beside me. This was about 2 years ago but here what it was at that time:
1) if there are no seats at the back, seat belts must be removed
2) there is no need to weld the seat belt holes.
3) there is no such thing as "registering as 2 seater"
4) all the trims around the remaining seats must remain.
5) you can remove all the trims around the area of the removed seats providing that it does not expose the metal that is reachable in case of impact by driver/passenger seating in the remaining seats.
