I always slow down before the sign... But ALSO speed up before...

I had a cop pull me over in temple view, in the 100k zone about 20m's into it. "I clocked you at 105, you got to that pretty fast when the 50 sign is just back there!"
my reply "well I do have a turbo and dont see the point in fluffin around"

he said very well, on your way

100km signs are usually put a good distance away from residential areas so that there can be a gradual speed change without ridiculous decelaeration/acceleration.

That cop should be publicly burned at the stake... that sort of behaviour does the cops no good, and just pisses people off.

i have some points....

first up, from the 2nd hand account, he was 10m inside the 50 zone doing 67
is that 100% truthful? maybe, maybe not.....

2nd, maybe he gave the cop attitude and pissed him off.

3rd, line has to be somewhere, and better a solid black line then a vague grey area.

I know of someone who got a ticket at 80ks going into a 50k zone and it got thrown out cause of some rule saying you have 250m to slow down past the sign.
Better safe than sorry though if you ask me.

I'm surprised questions like this still come up :?

We are all old and ugly enough to know the rules, we've been pushing them since we could crawl, but surely by now people would stop crying when they get punished for pushing said boundaries.

I'm not saying I drive to the rules all the time, (not even close) but if I was doing 67km/h BEFORE I went past the 100km/h signs, then I KNOW i'm breaking the law. Cranky cop or not, if you break ANY rule in ANY way, then you should not complain about being FAIRLY fined. People that think this should not be the case give "car enthusiasts" a bad name as much as boy racers do.

Just my 2c above, but I think the politically correct nature of NZ is turning people into pussies that do nothing but moan

Hmm looks like the police may not be following their own guidlines
Police guidelines for speed enforcement wrote:When enforcement is taking place in an area where drivers are making the transition from a higher speed to a lower speed area, vehicles should not be targeted within 250 (two hundred and fifty) metres from the point where the speed limit changes unless there are good reasons to do so, such as protecting people operating at road works or to ensure the safety of children. (This does not apply within school zones.)

Though that says nothing about going from a lower to a higher limit ;)

One thing that kinda annoys me is that if they really are so pedantic about the speeding by signs thing then why dont people who take a century to speed up get in the shit for dangerous driving or something along those lines as they are doing 50 - 60 in a 100km area. Had a similar experience to this a wee while ago at night where i was just cruising along at 105 - 110 and there were a taillights up the raod so didnt think anything of it. Went through a few blind corners and then had to stand on the brakes because those lights were now right in my face and doing about 40.....

^Supposed to be able to stop within the distance you can see ahead of you.
A friend of mine was in an accident a few years ago. He was on his way home (Okains Bay if anyone knows it, twisty as hell downhill road) came around a corner to find an SUV stopped in the middle of the road having a chat with another vehicle (stopped in the other lane). Couldn't stop in time and wrote his car off, and broke the tail light of the SUV.

^^ I've come around a corner on a road near Akaroa only to find a car stopped taking photos of the sheep..... needless to say the sheep disappeared when my air horns sounded and the tourists carried on their way

A guy I used to work with drove around a bend into the back of a truck parked on the road, was lucky to live and got charged with careless or dangerous driving (I forget which) and he had to attend a defensive driving course 8O > I found that rather stupid really. He challenged it as there was no indication a truck would be randomly parked on the road.... and he got told he should be driving like theres a truck around every corner...... can you imagine the congestion if people drove with the above in mind? :x

I got pinged in my work car for doing 56 in a 50 zone just before a 60 sign!

I laughed at the $30 fine .... revenue gathering

Rules are rules and all that shit, but hows that gonna give cops the respect that they need to do their jobs properly if he's doing that?

The law may be an ass, and we are free to lobby to get it changed if that is what we believe, but if we choose to break it we should still pay the penalty, no matter how unjust we consider the law to be. So I will pay my $80 enforced donation, and try not to get caught again.
