I'm all for it.

Mounted in a patrol car it alerts cops to the above mentioned things.
Will also alert them it the registered owner has outstanding warrants etc.

*shrug*

Those that are willing to give up a little bit of liberty to acquire a little bit of security, receive neither and rarely deserve both.

It's not like they are going to be able to find out a whole lot of info about you such as what you had for breakfast so why stress about it.

*Shrug* Baby steps.

It's inevitable, but i'm sure as shit not going to celebrate the slow erosion of civil liberties.

So automating a process that normally requires manual input, still receiving the same info just faster, takes way some of your liberties?

Liberty is a concept in political philosophy that identifies the condition in which human beings are able to govern themselves, to behave according to their own free will, and take responsibility for their actions.

*shrug* it's a slow progression, gradual, slowly raising the amount of information that is automatically attained, all presented as, 'for your own good'. but enough of that, eh, i can see i'm making myself unpopular, lol.

The information can, and is, already attained so I dont see the difference?

I think the issue is that there are already far too many people in NZ who think they should be able to govern themselves, behave according to their own free will, but NOT take responsibility for their own actions. Thats why our jails are overflowing and why we need to keep building more of them.

Its not like they are scanning our retina's through the windscreen to work out what naughty things we swallowed in the weekends is it?

It's ANPR isn't it? automatic number plate recognition.

or is it Anal, Nit Picking Retards?

You sure its not nit picking about what a front cut and a nose cut is?

if someone prices up/buys a nose cut expecting to get an engine/box etc withit they would be horribly dissapointed. Correcting someones terms could save that person/someone else a couple of grand, I wouldn't call that nit picking, but you obviously do.

Point out someone elses errors, then hassle someone that does the same. Pot, black? Didn't mean to upset you so much tbh. I'm sure it's a pet peeve of yours seeing as you're in that industry, doesn't mean everyone ran out and got nose cuts as one person used the wrong term.

I'm sure everyone googling the wrong acronym for the plate reading technology were equally dissapointed.

Anyways, I can't see any downsides to the idea. Nothing is changing really except the speed at which people will be caught flouting the law in whichever way they are.

my Acronym for ANPR (or whatever else it is called) was designed as a JOKE about the POLICE, did you miss that part?

i saw something on tv here in aus about a month ago about it

they're testing them out somewhere over here in about 5 cop cars i think, its pretty impressive how it can read 5 or 6 numberplates at a time....

i think its good, i keep my cars road legal so ive got no worries about it
The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

I remember seeing that on an Aussie cop show here in NZ a little while ago. I was quite impressed.

I've been past the white (vw or merc??) vans a few times now and I don't see them as a bad thing.

How quickly would a stolen car/new info be uploaded to the vans system? If it's instant that's not all bad then :)

Too much civilisation 4

Don't cheapen liberty by using it as an excuse to avoid a ticket for a wof/reg/license.

yeah the vans they have are made out to look like painters vans or something with pipes and shit on the roof, theyre a give away though by the two cameras on them, the big bull bars and the aerials.
But they only use them as a trap and call in a squad car up the road

This sounds like a good idea to me for several reasons
* People without warrants will be alot more likely to be caught and taken off the road therefore reducing the liekelyhood that something will fail and they will crash killing themselves / me / my friends / my family / you
* It reduces the need for more police and gives the current police more time to focus on crimes that really need to take up their time
* It will make me get my warrant sorted before the expiry date.
* Makes passing through booze stops quicker
* makes no difference if its a camera or a cop if you don't have a wof you're still $&#$%.
The GT4 is to Celicas what the GTR is to skylines.
