Mounted in a patrol car it alerts cops to the above mentioned things.
Will also alert them it the registered owner has outstanding warrants etc.

I think the issue is that there are already far too many people in NZ who think they should be able to govern themselves, behave according to their own free will, but NOT take responsibility for their own actions. Thats why our jails are overflowing and why we need to keep building more of them.

Its not like they are scanning our retina's through the windscreen to work out what naughty things we swallowed in the weekends is it?

i saw something on tv here in aus about a month ago about it

they're testing them out somewhere over here in about 5 cop cars i think, its pretty impressive how it can read 5 or 6 numberplates at a time....

i think its good, i keep my cars road legal so ive got no worries about it

I've been past the white (vw or merc??) vans a few times now and I don't see them as a bad thing.

yeah the vans they have are made out to look like painters vans or something with pipes and shit on the roof, theyre a give away though by the two cameras on them, the big bull bars and the aerials.
But they only use them as a trap and call in a squad car up the road

This sounds like a good idea to me for several reasons
* People without warrants will be alot more likely to be caught and taken off the road therefore reducing the liekelyhood that something will fail and they will crash killing themselves / me / my friends / my family / you
* It reduces the need for more police and gives the current police more time to focus on crimes that really need to take up their time
* It will make me get my warrant sorted before the expiry date.
* Makes passing through booze stops quicker
* makes no difference if its a camera or a cop if you don't have a wof you're still $&#$%.
