On this note, can anyone recommend some seats that aren't made for midgets who had their legs cut off at birth? Every single race seat I've sat in, the harness holes have been below my shoulders... I just figured it was something I'd have to live with, but now I'm a little worried...

Sabelt Titan size L if you are 80-90kg and 6 foot or taller, Titan XL if you are more 100kg and 6 foot or taller.

I am 6 foot and 95kg, stocky build, mine are the XL but would probably go the Large if I was to replace them. They are 9kg so quite light for a XL seat, the L is lighter. They have big harness holes so are quite adjustable. Best seat sub $1000 IMHO.

I got mine for like $350 each from Repco on special!!!

racepros are OK if you are small, if you are a taller person racepros are too small

They have their Large size. IH8TEC had one on this forum and he was around the 90kg mark and fitted them with room to spare.
I've got the small one and yes its only intended for a slim build person for sure!

try a racetech RT1000. the newer ones are a bit more forgiving than the older ones. other than that i would recommend a racetech 4000W or a sparco evo XL. both very comfortable seats could spend all day in them!

I looked at that info a couple of days ago and just like the sabelt site, they dont provide harness to seat base measurements like Racetech and others do.

he might be 90KG but how tall is he?

for other peoples reference

You are a giant! Maybe look at basketball instead of motorsports

If you are local you are more than welcome to try my seats out, maybe at a Toyspeed Trackday or meet, they are very generous :)

Hahah cheers, damn you I was local until today :P

I've sat in Gina's Sparco Evo XL and it was nice and comfy, but I still think the harness holes were a little low. Those are the seats I'm probably going to aim for though.

A few years ago I took all the relevant measurements for seating, I'll have to find my book and hunt them out... its the base to harness hole thats the biggest problem for me.

With racetech seats being made here they can make them to suit. A guy in the car club had one made with the seat belt holes higher for this very reason.

Yeah I investigated that option a few years ago, off the top of my head it was nearly double the price of a normal seat to get that done, and I just wasn't as impressed by the 4000W as I am by the Sparco Evo XL.

Racetech are very good and I am all for supporting NZ made but when I costed mine up I could save myself around 1,000 buying the Italian made and lighter Sabelts.. $1000,00 is a lot when you are on a budget!

So did some quick measuring again, looks like harness holes being about 690mm high is what I need...

Racetech 4000WX looks to be about 2cm too short, can't find the specs for the Sparco EVO seats.

Well after some driving around and sitting in a 4009WHR and a Sparco Evo 3, my choices seem to be either pay $1700ish for a custom modified 4009W, or just under a grand for a Sparco Ergo.

I felt the Evo 3 lacked lateral thigh support and wasn't a deep enough seat, Sparco Ergo looks better in that respect, although I'm not a fan of the head restraints.

Annoying how some manufacturers only list the total height of the seat rather than base to harness hole measurement.

Looks like Racetech now do a seat for tall and tall and wide people - RT4009THR or WTHR. http://www.racetech.co.nz/racetech.shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=422. Says the harness holes are at 71cm from the base so might be OK for you. It's measurement G that you need to check. There are others as well apart form the one I've linked to.

Cheers, yeah me and the guy at Chicane discussed that while I was there, but didn't seem to think it would be tall enough for me. He actually rang his Racetech rep to discuss it, their suggestion was solely to custom modify a 4009 for me (they can only custom modify this model). Interesting how you say 71cm to harness holes, I should probably get along to Speedshow and visit the Racetech stand, hopefully they have one there, although I'd hate to think what the cost of it will be.

That's a good idea, they have all the right people there to answer your questions.

Check out the autoquip stand too, talk to Chris about big seats, he is ontoit.

I sat in the 4009WHR, barely squeezed in and the harness holes were around where my shoulder blades sit.
