I agree with most of what you say, but not this one.
Lets say he was driving the lowest spec silvia out. If he nailed it in first then slapped it into second dumping the clutch, do you think he would have lost control like that?
How about in an average corrola?
HP DOES and WOULD make a difference. Yes, you can be a muppet in ANY Hp car, but a low hp car wouldnt have had enough power to do what he says happened to him! (trust me, I know, I drive a low spec RWD car!)

Unlikely story, but hey none of us were there and the media are pretty good at making the worst of any given situation, if it wasnt labelled as "car only suitable for track environments" it would have been something else that grabs attention "boyracer kills while drifting" "young driver cant handle high powered car and takes life" bla bla bla
it could have been a wanna b "look at me im drifting" gone wrong or a genuine accident which will haunt him for rest of life
it seems jail time is looming, hes done about all he can do, pleaded guilty etc and is asking the judge to go easy on him as it wasnt on purpose.
