Probably commiting insurance fraud too, car in his mums name but he had been driving it for the last two months. Don't know many people who put track spec suspension in their mums car, or many mums running around in a lowered out Nissan.

Nah certainly not legal, but I did wonder myself if the setup is actually unsafe, or if they are basing the judgement solely on the fact there's no cert for the setup. Maybe it would have passed a cert, maybe not. Certainly won't now....

depends on the brand i think,,
i deem d2 and ksport unsafe no matter if its on the track or not, time will tell if the bc and bc gold are any better, im picking he had bc's in his s15, as there the most common,

the quality of JIC and HKS have gone down the sh1tter lately, i see so many leaking and bent sets on yahoo japan,
even those "make your own" sleeve's are rubbish for the most part,

there's only three brands i trust for suspension parts, TRD, tein and bilstein,

^Funny that, most TRD coilovers have the shocks made by bilstein anyway IIRC.

nah definatly not saying legal as if it was legal it would have a cert.... :roll: because thats legal... i was saying it would be legit, as in not a r32 4door wid d2s, set as low as they can go :lol:

from what i have read the guy wasnt intentionally drifting just changed from first to second really fast at high revs and couldnt handle it as hed never been in that situation before... this could be debated

Unlikely story, but hey none of us were there and the media are pretty good at making the worst of any given situation, if it wasnt labelled as "car only suitable for track environments" it would have been something else that grabs attention "boyracer kills while drifting" "young driver cant handle high powered car and takes life" bla bla bla

it could have been a wanna b "look at me im drifting" gone wrong or a genuine accident which will haunt him for rest of life

it seems jail time is looming, hes done about all he can do, pleaded guilty etc and is asking the judge to go easy on him as it wasnt on purpose.

It can be debated till the cows come home if he did it on purpose or not. But whichever way it was doesn't change the end result. He just pushed things too far in general, rwd car, coilovers, wet road, revving his car while attempting to turn a corner.... if it was one little thing that caused it maybe i'd feel sorry for the guy, but he did nothing right there and someone else paid the consequences.

I agree with most of what you say, but not this one.

Lets say he was driving the lowest spec silvia out. If he nailed it in first then slapped it into second dumping the clutch, do you think he would have lost control like that?

How about in an average corrola?

HP DOES and WOULD make a difference. Yes, you can be a muppet in ANY Hp car, but a low hp car wouldnt have had enough power to do what he says happened to him! (trust me, I know, I drive a low spec RWD car!)

In the wet? Even an old 78 gto can break traction in second in the wet...

Unless you are driving an extremely light weight car with a half decent motor like a lotus 7, v-tec mini conversion etc etc.
I think power to weight is more important...

its well known he is a silvia forum member and was on his way back from buying a LSD diff from another forum members house, so its quite safe to say he has been in that situation before,

i dont really care how he came to this mess he still deserves jail time, so do alot of other traffic accidents,

there is this kid who comes over to the work shop sometimes and talks about stupid street racing shit, and was not even moved about this crash when we all talked about it, thought it was nothing, i wish there was a brick i could jam into his skull,
maybe just MAYBE some hard jail time to show the consequences might alter there perception of whats cool,
he drives a cefiro with black roof :roll:

nz justice is sooo faking soft it makes me angry,

I totally agree...
My father was sitting at an intersection turning right, as he started rolling forward he got sun strike and accidentally hit a cyclist, she fell off, is ok, he paid to fix her bike and she held nothing against him.
He got a $500 fine and lost his licence for 6 months, previously clean record!
I first time drunk driver at court with him that wrote off his car got a $400 fine and 3 months loss of licence!
We are too soft on the wrong people...
