I think they were thinking of center of gravity and not of how things would work come service time.

I'm still pissed about their design of the rocker cover on the 4K-E in a Starlet, can't fill the bastard with oil without a funnel because the coil is in the way. :(

$$$. Would be my guess..

To any one that understands toyota part numbers aswell. They have weird part numbers, In most toyota parts use there first 5 digits for a PNC (Part Number Code) for instance oil filters (90915) cambelts (13568) water pumps (16100) seals (90311). Were as the 86 has SU003 or some thing or rather for all its first 5 digits of the part number. Smells like some thing too do with subaru if you ask me..

That's because everything is stamped with Subaru! Even the wheel centre caps which feature the Toyota logo have Subaru on the back :lol:

Starting to consider getting one of these as a daily. What's the model to get? Best value for money etc. (Saves me reading 23 pages :D)

TRD model is the one to get, cos of the ridiculous brakes they give you? Although paying a 50% surcharge on the base model seems bloody heavy.

What model would you get/why?

Depends of what you plan to do, the GT would be the one to buy if you plan on keeping it stock, it gains half leather with heaters, nicer dash layout and trim, LED DTRL, bigger wheels and slightly bigger brakes.

If you like modifying things and don't care to much for superficial features and comforts the 86 is for you, save 5k and spend it on wheels and brakes and a set of stiffer springs.

Neither IMHO are very well packaged car for the money, and you will get more features in a $30k Ford Focus, it would not make an ideal daily or a practical car if you have lots of friends or customers to drive around and bulk items to load in the back like I do, they are quite a personal sports car type deal, would sooner have one as a weekend car and a Corolla/Golf etc as a daily.

I like mine as a daily driver as it saves having to have multiple vehicles. It will see occasional track use (maybe every few months) so no major need to mod it yet.

International demand is for the GT in manual, so if you wanted base-spec in auto then you'll almost be able to take your pick and get delivery a lot sooner. AUS has 18 month wait on GT manual orders.

Sounds like the plain jane 86 is for me. The GT's wheels look like Advanti's and I prefer the 16's. That said, it's crying out for some TE37's or similar.

I doubt I'll mod it either. I have the older 86 for fanging/track, the te27 when I want to ride old school, and an Audi wagon as the practical daily. This would more be the fun daily. Since I got the Audi the Accord Euro really serves no purpose so looking to move that on. The older 86 is getting pretty track focused now, the te27 I don't even like taking out (well I do, its just I hate driving it around fearing someone is going to hit me.) and the ke20 has gotten to the stage where its too fast/impractical for the street anyway.

So sell the ke20, trade the honda, I pick up an 86 and a garage space.

The biggest downside IMO of the plain jane 86 is the manual speedo, I could see speeding tickets a plenty as it's not clear at a glance, however it's probably something you'd get used to. Parents get theirs delivered tonight

it has lots and lots of subaru in it.. it rolls off a subaru assembly line after all. However Toyota own Subaru..

Toyota owns a sub-20% share of FHI (the company that owns Subaru). Unless something has happened very recently, Toyota most certainly do not own Subaru.

Looks like they've taken the GT86 + Aero Kit, removed the big wing and added the TRD brakes + TRD alloys. Brakes = overkill, but at least they've got the budget to play with ;)

It's taken all day. But I've decided on colour and on wheels. It seems no one has the wheels I've chosen fitted to one yet.
