Whats good about FXGT

Postby BWDOWN » Wed Jan 03, 2007 8:32 pm

Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying a cheap daily driver, (shock horror) its a toyota FXGT. I think the 87 to 90/1 shape is AE92 its 4AGE but not 20V.

Its got a fair few options TEMS, Cruise control, Auto H/lights etc

Tidy as condition and no rust, are these good reliable cars and what problems should I look out for?

TIA

Yep, everything except the glass and the tyres is prone to rust.

Other than that, make sure it's not smoking badly, and that it isn't using large amounts of oil or water.

Other than that, you can mostly run them into the ground and they come back asking for more.

You've listed lots of electrical doodads, and generally the more of those, the more likely they are to crap out, so check everything works.

I've got an AE92 '87 FXGT and she is a gem and for a 20 year old car I'm well impressed. A tiny bit of rust but it is 'Toyota Tough' ... if you service it well, it will look after you. The other thing I like is when it does need parts they are cheap second hand and plentiful! :)

This is very true, though I have seen a few with rusty hatch's and lower doors. So it is worth a close look, as that can get expensive fast.

you wont go wrong with one of those cars man, my 87 fxgt is probably the best car i've ever owned. Go thru it with a fine tooth comb and strip/touch up any rust spots and maintain it well and it'll look after you - make sure you service that auto trans.
