2JZGTE gearbox Convertion

Postby NZVengeance » Tue Jan 22, 2008 3:30 pm

Now i know it is possible to make this 4wd i have been assured by a guy in waihi (Conversion components) that it can be done my question is what is the best way to go?

Hilux Box?
GTR34 Skyline box?
other?

Hypothetically speaking would want a box that would support 650-800bhp

may pay to look up TWSTD's altezza wagon thread, his is a factory 4wd 2jzge , and it had a few clues on how to do it on there.

A W series box won't hold that much power, you want something out of newer GTR or perhaps an Audi Quattro (if you see the box from one of these, you'll see why I suggest it, they're rather significant). You'll either have to get a custom bellhousing cast or design an adaptor plate

With the GTR box, you'll probably end up having to sit the engine quite far back so you have room to mount a diff in the front since the GTR diff is in the sump, and you can't use it.

The Audi boxes I've seen have the front axles coming out the side, just behind the bellhousing, so to use that you'll need a car with a fairly long nose to fit the 2J in there.

Either way, there's lots of fabrication needed.

Anyone else have ideas?

my theory is if you were going to be doing 650-800hp then you would be inclined to buy a decent sequential box and setup and do all the fabrication required to fit it to your application

ask matt dunn about crazy conversions, he seems to have been involved in a few , and funnily enough they don't often try to use factory parts for a purpose they were never designed for. i think they had a hollinger or something in their xr6T focus.

yeah if you want that much power, there is not m uch apart from a hollenger that I can think of that will take it.
The 4WD skyline that races in my class is supposedly 600hp or so and is hollenger sequential and 4wd, but the lower power skylines still break modified GTR boxes so they are not that good either?

In fact we managed to shatter a hollenger input shaft in the focus with the torque.

Are you talking circuit or drag racing?

Comparatively, they're not that strong. The Trust/Greddy gearsets you can buy for them still smash at around 550hp.

It's not Hp that breaks stuff it's torque.

The 2JZGTE AE101 Levin runs a hollenger same as the Focus,
and the same diff and axel's
and has had no power related drivetrain problems,
and made more HP than the focus.

But the focus had almost tripple the torque lower in the RPM range,
just over 880nm at the fly,
and so shat a few diff's axels and the hollenger.

Depending on how you look at it, this could be seen as off topic, but:

Matt - Regarding the Hollinger for the 2JZ, was there a bellhousing available or did you have to get something made?

With hollenger, everything is custom made, even the input shaft,
so a 6 month wait when you break it, lol.
The guys that own the AE101 are Toyota dealers so they supplied us with a brand new genuine toyota bellhousing and we made the adapter from there.

R150f or R151f

They are essential a R154 for hilux's. Thats what I have behind my 2JZ-GE, they are the 3VZ-E and 3KZTE gearbag. They use a W5# style clutch fork as apposed to hydraulic.

the difference between those 2 is the 5th gear ratio (thats the difference i picked up on while driving the 2 different boxes

is there anyone in NZ like holinger or getrag. was goign to try and avoid them simply because of the hassle if anything breaks.

don't worry about what car it is going into that is of no consequence. fabrication is not an issue and i assure you it will fit.
