So just now I had a flat battery on the runabout...
Bugger, I have just about EVERYTHING in my garage BUT jumper cables
THE STARVIA has a good battery.... but the terminals are too big.
I saw my plasma cutter and went "...oooooh, earth clamp lead!...", And my Mig has one Too!!

I used them as my jumper cables using other welding clamps to hold the other ends onto the battery terminals.
IT WORKED!!! runabout started straight away!!!!!

What have you done just to get going, stuff that you are not entirely proud of......?

ha flat batteries are the story of my life and i had some cheap chinese ones that had about 5 strands of copper wire in the and would only flow about 5 amps.

after failing to start numerous cars with them i gave up and just use a spare battery that i have lying around and tapped some wire that i had lying around from old wiring looms to the terminals and it starts every car every time now.

Had a throttle cable break on 5K-T KP that didn't have a bonnet at the time. Workmate sat on the guard/engine and did throttle while I drove and did clutch back to the workshop down the main road... little bit dodgy

To be fair, that was built on a budget and had a few rangi bits all over it. $18 paint job, surge tank in the engine bay that was a bit of pipe and plates welded to the old battery tray. Head bolts welded into the original twin carb airbox to stop it inflating etc

Had an exhaust leak which was just a small rust hole in a weld, and I had a bit of exhaust wrap fixit stuff, but no aluminium foil to go over it... so I cut up a coke can and wrapped that over the exhaust wrap (label out) and tied it on with a bunch of garden wire, got some funny comments at WOFs but no gas leak, so passed ok.
I was so impressed with the longevity of the fix that 2 years later when I had a similar problem in a completely different place in the pipe, I used a Heineken can for the fix

using a bit of radiator hose and an oil cap to block off a blow off valve port of an intercooler to start the car for the first time

tacking a bit of sheet metal over a rust hole in my $100 laser to get it a wof. passed at vtnz

Seen somebody try that with a lead acid battery. It wasn't particually nice on his hands or the paint work. I've also seen somebody drive down the road using polygrips as a steering wheel.

Gear lever broke in my old mini, fixed it with a bic pen and sellotape. Got me home fine

Clutch fork bracket for the clutch cable fell off my old KP60 = fixed with cable ties. Worked for quite a while afterwards

oh yeah, used a universal radiator hose to finish i/c piping on my aw11 so I could make MM06 (or was it 7?)
Worked so well I never changed it
