Supra was just serviced at toyota and ...

Postby escortman » Mon Jul 12, 2010 8:17 am

ok so a couple days before i picked up the supra it had a oil/filter and brake service at toyota.

now the reciept says front pad kit and front disk machine but the car has a brake shudder under heavy breaking

what im wanting to know is can i take it back to them even though im the new owner? if not ill do it myself but if theyr at fault they should have to fix it no matter what?

i think whats happened is that beause the discs look almost new they haven't bothered machineing them completely or something like that

You have the receipt, just come in there and complain, who cares who is the owner. Also before you do anything re-torque your wheel nuts, that might alleviate shuddering. Saying that I believe toyota disks are not machinable, and they are too skinny and warped now.

Which dealership?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Disks and pads are not the only causes of brake judder. Could be worn bushings or other issues.

Also depends whether last owner paid them to simply replace pads and disks or to fix a judder issue. Just becuase they replaced pads it does not mean they take all responsibility for the vehicle after that.

Might pay to try 'testing' the abs on a gravel/grass/wet road if unsure about what abs feels like. Quite noticeable.

How do you know the previous owner didn't warp the brakes? Customary 'last thrash' and all?

Toyota care about their reputation so they'll probably sort it for you, especially if you complain loudly enough.

But IMO the previous owner should have contacted or taken it straight back to Toyota if there was a problem. Or you should have contacted the previous owner to get it sorted when you picked it up.

a common problem that can happen when putting discs back together is that if they dont clean around the hub it can make the disc sit slightly askew , quite an easy fix , disassemble , clean with a wire brush and re assemble , if you are capable , might be an idea to do it yourself , then you know for sure .

I used to use Giltrap City in Grey Lynn all the time, never had any dramas, no doubt they'll sort it for you if you talk to them about it and provide receipt etc.
