If it is an airbag steering wheel (will say something along the lines of SRS on the wheel) you cant take it off. A. its pretty dangerous, as the propellant charge is much like a shotgun cartridge and can do the same sort of damage, B. its removing a part of the "necessary" safety features and will make you fail warrants.

If its like mine then it will have a mechanical airbag in it, in which case the light will only come on if there is a fault with the airbag, like say if it is removed, there is a light on the dash by the fuel gauge but it isnt very easy to see until it lights up

If its a airbag steering wheel, dont pull it off, you wont pass a wof without it and id say your insurance wont pay out if its missing

Also i would recommend that you remove the sun visor with the SRS writen on it, If you do go for a warrant if they decide to look at it and see that its meant to have an airbag then you will fail and have to put it back in to get a warrant

Right, so despite all advice to the contrary you have gone ahead and performed an illegal modification to your car.

It is illegal to remove an Airbag. Nuff said.

Not having a Horn is also illegal, but even if you fix that, your car _is_ illegal. If the WOF techy is on the ball and realises your car comes with Airbags OEM, you're stuffed - you probably need certification now.

Question for the people on here who are in the know,

If your vehicle comes with an airbag from factory, are you allowed to remove it and get a cert, or is it illegal even with a cert to remove an airbag?

Yup, but you have to remove all the signs that there was an airbag too. As usual with these things, it's best to chat to your local certifier before doing anything.

AFAIK, its still illegal as the airbag is what the LTSA deemed to be part of the equipment to keep the car up to the frontal impact standards.
