Postby gazza_jay » Sun Jan 21, 2007 1:03 pm

I know theirs a few starly owners out their so I guess someone could help, Im luking 2 get a 92 staret and the turb feels a bit tired so I was wondering what is a good upgrade from the standard turbo, and a rough estimate of how much they cost..

I'm sure a GT35/40 would go nicely and spool well on one
If you're up to spending some coin on it, a Garret GT20 would be quite nice.

T3's go well on them :D. Im biased though coz thats whats on mine.

You could either highflow the stock unit, which is a mild upgrade. Or if you want to put a bigger one on there there are a few that work pretty well. TD04L, VF10, T25, smaller T3's, and probably some other medium sized turbos that will probably do the trick.

Go the td04 off a wrx, dont bother with one off a GSR. The wrx one is bigger and flows more than the gsr one

Early Evo 1 & 2 coolers will also fit behind the stock bumper.

You dont want to go anything more than 260mm tall and around 450 ish long. Any longer and the piping starts to get tricky.

Later model ones have tanks top and bottom, and the design isnt as front mount friendly for starlets as the early vr4 ones due to the in/out pipe placement.

Tdo4l off a gsr should be fine. If you can find the stock cooler off a twin turbo supra use that. They actually have a decent area plus core size. Might have to watch how your exhaust is done as i had problems with boost creep (like 12-18psi creep) when i put the td04 on, sorted it by porting the internal gate out. I got the whole setup on there just running 8psi for $500 but did all the work bar cooler pipe welding and manifold myself. May have helped that i had mates who did the fabrication work for the mani for a doz or 3 tho and another mate who was selling his gsr gear with the cooler cheap as he was upgrading :)

CT12's off supras are a different flange alltogether. The CT12's that fit are off some diesels and a few other cars. But theyre by no means an upgrade, in fact the compressor housing is stightly smaller on them.
