help!! i can't get the k50 out of the ae85!? :-(

Postby (((***Paul***)))ae85 » Thu Apr 08, 2004 11:55 pm

please help the novice trying to learn :-)

i have got everything unbolted, the gearbox is free but the gearnob stops it going far enough back to drop out... i was told i should be able to get the k50 out without removing the gearnob... and the oil.
so, am i surposed to unbolt some of the clutch setup? (sorry don't know all the names of the parts) its like the spline is being stopped by it.

thanks
paul

Dont know who told you what but all the rwd toyota boxes i've taken out you have had to remove the gearlever to get it to come back far enough to get it out and if you dont drain the oil it will leak out the driveshaft hole if you tip it that way.

you say you have the gearbox unbolted, have you unbolted the bellhousing from the block of the gearbox from the belhousing? coz you wont be able to pull the gearbox away from the bellhousing, just in case that's what you were trying to do... i know this from fiist hand experience lol

you need to remove the gear knob and lever, this is a one minute job, the whole thing is held in place by a circlip (dont loose it), just get a circlip tool or some needle nose pliers to take it out and then you can pull the lever from the box from in the cabin (dont loose the circlip, i mean it)

as for the oil, unbolt the driveshaft flange at the diff (of its a one piece driveshaft) and pop it down, do not pull the driveshaft out the back of the box other wise it will dump it oil, just leave it hanging

get a mate aswell, i have done this before about 3-4 times now, and it is a two person job if your doing it at home without hoists and other hydrolic goodies
