Honing the Cylinders

Postby 86 Power » Mon Jun 07, 2004 1:46 pm

What type of hone to do you guys use for hining the cylinders? A bottle brush type or spring loaded 3 stone type? Which works the best? Or do you just take it to a machining shop? How much do they charge generally for 4 cylinder blocks?

I have used both types but it seems modern toyotas and engines in general are very sensitive to honing patterns I have seen 20v's ringed twice by toyota and still burn oil so I would take it to a machine shop they have machines to so it that produce an even and correct cross hatch pattern.
Using a hand drill is a bit hit and miss even for experinced users.
After all there is nothing worse than a rebuilt engine that the rings wont bed in on and keep burning oil.
