What have you done to the car?

A lot of people recommended to me not to go above 15in because in general the suspension setups on AE85/6s will start to get "overpower" by the lateral grip, and start lifting tyres...

But I think if you have some really serious setup you could go a bit bigger, 16s or maybe at a squeeze 17s.

Will also depend on what rubber you're using.

Its an AE85 with pretty much all the AE86 bits transferred accross, including the front struts. Its slightly lowered all around, but not overly slammed, as its setup for targa and needs compression ability else she'll bump its way off the road. Its running TRD rears. I didnt do the work, but have recently purchased it from the previous owner/builder of the car. Its a clubsport/targa car with cage etc.

From what you have said, its sounds like sticking with 15" is more suitable. What 15" rim offset and tyre size is recommended as the max ?

You can only go so low and wide with 15inch rims before you hit the rear guards.
Only buy wheels that are justified by your brake size
i run 280mm front rotors and 270 rears and im still running 14X7s all round.
Std brakes with stock lower arms and stock track on diff i would go for 14X8s with offset 0 to -10

I don't know about max. But I can tell you I'm running 15x6.5 +7(I think) offset. 195/50-15s for tyres.

This combo seems to work well with what else I'm running.

30mm lower Kings springs all round, KYB shocks all round, 24mm front stabiliser, TRD 2 way LSD, rear strut brace and half cage.
Stock rotors and calipers all round, so 234 fronts, 225ish rears.
Also just about to put on 18mm rear bar (but scared of results since this will VASTLY adjust the rear bias of the handling), and a front strut brace.

The only way to know what you can run is to try it really. It'll depend on your driving a lot.

If you go for 15s I would suggest starting with some 15x6.5 with 195/50-15s with around a zero offset...
I think biggest changes will be in tyre choice.
I used to run some toyos but found they just wouldn't perform on my car. Got some Yokohamas that seem to perform nicely. Mixture of weight, driving styles etc...

Integra Type R rims I think will fit. They are some Enkei light weights and can usually be found for as little as $400 in really good condition. Throw away the centre caps and paint them and very few people will notice...

Yoko A032R 195/50-15
Dunlop DO1J 195/55-15
Toyo RA1 205/50-15
--> All "semi" race tyres. Probably what you want for a Targa.
Otherwise try some hypo streeters, but during a Targa don't expect the earth...
