auto to manual (again) different Q's

Im going to change the gearbox in my sisters starlet from auto to manual, I know what has to be done thats not the issue


I would like to know if I have to tell the LTSA about the change? will it cost anything? will it need a cert?

I have searched but it came up with a million pages and no specific answer to what im after

i think you require something like a low volume cert if you change it from auto to manual but i can't confirm this.

if you do a good job and have a manual console etc to go with the conversion then no one will be able to know what the car was suppose to be unless they decode your the numbers on your Vin/chassis plate.

yeah man i never had any problems with warrents when i changed my 85 from auto to manual, they just didn't know any different heh

if it all bolts in (which it will) then no

if you have to weld and cut etc (which you wont) then yes

Yup.. as long as you use ALL the parts from the donor manual, ie. if its a RWD Starlet, get the manual crossmember and driveshaft, if its a FWD Starlet, use ALL brackets and mounts that came from the donor.

The idea is, if you have to make up ANYTHING, it needs to be certed, but as long as they're all bolt-up factory parts, you don't.

Im just gonna be using all the manual parts from dads rusted starlet so should be ok then
